It's extra service for them because they might need an additional train or two to operate the service 🤣

hahahah yes, but they probably take it into account and just reduce the recovery time at each terminal for the (N), since the local service on 4 Av only "officially" adds five extra minutes of travel time in each direction, time that can be subtracted from recovery time at each terminal, since at both Stillwell Av and Ditmars Blvd, the (N) has both track available. The MTA also probably thinks that since the (N) is doing the Astoria Express southbound, that time change on 4 Av will be net neutral. Therefore, ZERO extra trains needed. just changing the following switching operations:

1. Add switch operations at 59 St

2. Lock in the 36 St switch to have only West End service connecting to 4 Av Express during the daytime and evening

3. DeKalb Av Interlocking locked so that all 4 Av Express / DeKalb Av bypass operations connect to Manhattan Bridge North and all "Brighton Local / DeKalb Av Bridge tracks" connecting to Manhattan Bridge South.

4. Atlantic Av-Barclays Center to DeKalb Av now requires a switch operation to allow the (N) to access the Manhattan Bridge and merge onto the (Q) track

The select (5) trains to Crown Heights-Utica Av during the AM rush hours and Bowling Green loop trains rerouted to Rector St (1) line mentioned October 29th is the last day. However, elevator work is still in progress and being extended till November 30th. This change will not take part on November 25th, Thanksgiving Day.

So...instead of running the (G) to Coney Island...they're doing all this extra stuff for no reason. Ok then.

This is the typical weeknight version of this G.O. Why it's Sunday into Monday this time IDK

EDIT: Just saw the Euclid Av part, that's actually something different. Usually the Manhattan and Queens half ends at Hoyt-Schermerhorn and use the middle track at Lafayette Avenue to turn.

Because the G.O is being done all day on Sunday. It's only when the G.O is done during overnights only that the (F) will end at Hoyt.

And the (C) will be ending at World Trade Center that Sunday as well

How come this didn’t go into effect today ?

Likely:

1. not enough train crews to run such an extended (F). This change essentially needs the full (F) to run in addition to a shuttle (F).

2. No workers available to do the work - likely will be pushed back to a weeknight change, and the split service done at Hoyt-Schemerhorn.

Suspend the (C) since it's barely running, have the (A) run local in Manhattan and you have crews to run the (F).

True, or just keep the (A) express the whole way from 168 St to Euclid Av, with the (E) making the local stops south of 59 St and the (D) north of 59 St, and the (F) local in Brooklyn, but I think the crews are so tight that the (F) train GO cannot happen because they need extra crews to run that service and the savings from not running the (C) probably will just be enough to maintain "acceptable" service on the (A). Remember that the weekend (A) train headways are HORRIBLE with all the crew shortages. Seems that the (A)(C) have had to bear the worst of the crew shortages, with the (D) and (N) not lagging too far behind.

Not just the weekend...step off the (4) Fri for the next (3) to new lots to be 18mins away....Today the entire (B) line is suspended cause of crew shortage....This Covid crap is screwing everthing up...Not just transpotation..Everything...

Completely agree with you - It is a terrible situation, but we just have to push past it and get used to this being the new normal.

We need to shut down again. It’s clear what we’re doing isn’t working and at this rate we’ll be right back to where we started in March 2020.

As that may be what we have to do, I don't see it happening for political reasons, especially since I would see a massive revolt among the anti-vaxxers and anti-maskers who want every back to the way it was before the pandemic.

Has anyone noticed the MTA's ETA to restore (D) service to Coney Island has slipped? The original reopening date was January 3 - that has come and passed with nary a whisper from the MTA. Now they're saying "through January 2022"...

Sadly, that seems to be par for the course with this ass-backwards agency.  It was the same shit when they were doing work on the Livonia Avenue section of the (3). Things got pushed back continually on the down-low, without so much as a peep from the corporate suits.

Several planned weekend GOs have been cancelled likely due to worker shortages:

- The (L) was supposed to be suspended between Myrtle Wyckoff Avs and 8 Av, with the (M) running to 96 St in its place. Signs were all over the place at (L) train platforms.

- the (R) train was supposed to run via 6 Av/53 St from DeKalb Av to Queens Plaza, and the (N) was supposed to be suspended between Queensboro Plaza and Times Square-42 St, running via Lower Manhattan, and the (Q) making an extra stop at 49 St.

I think the only GOs left for the weekend were the A Division changes, including switch of the (2) and (5) (ironically the (5) - well really the (2) via Lexington - is running every 8 minutes, when it’s usually the other way around. The 7 Av service is supposed to have an express every 8 minutes, despite it going to Dyre Av), and the signal modernization related work on the 8 Av and Queens Blvd corridors

it is a bit frustrating considering there was a broken rail in the 60 St tunnel this week, which should have left 60 St changes on the schedule.

Haven't seen one of those GOs in a while. The Broadway trains are going to be running local to accomodate the (E) turning back at 34th Street.

Why not just end the (E) at Court Square? There’s no point in doing all this extra stuff.

With this planned change, one really gets the feeling that the (E) must reach Manhattan at all costs as if it were the route’s raison d'être. Can’t keep the badge ((E)) if it can’t do that one thing.

And that’s entirely stupid. Run extra (7)(N)(W) or (F) trains and call it a day.

Not necessarily advocating or against it, but in the past, they would have ran the (R) to Jamaica Center instead (and suspend the (E)).
