Planned Subway Service Changes

Transit usually times this service change with the periodic A,C via Rutgers one. That way, the Chambers St platform is free to turn the D trains without getting in the way of through service. Otherwise, the D will terminate at World Trade Center or simply run split service operations.

It's a combination of a lot of service changes in one. They schedule it when the (A)(C)(E) and (N) all have service changes. I'd guess that work is being done at 7 Av-53 Street, in Cranberry and 53 Street tubes and on Sea Beach.

The end result is this:

8th Avenue local: (A)(C)

8th Avenue express: (D)

West End: (N)

Sea Beach: shuttle buses

6 Avenue: (E)(F)

The Stations Were Closed for Renewal Work Since April

September 16th, 2016
3_line_station_work.jpg?itok=PCVl46Z1

As renewal projects at the Saratoga Av and Pennsylvania Av 3 line stations near completion, MTA New York City Transit will reopen the stations at 5:00 a.m. Monday, September 19. The two stations were closed for renewal work on April 11, 2016 as part of an $88 million capital project to rehabilitate seven elevated stations along the 3 line on the New Lots Av Branch. During the closures, customers were able to take advantage of free shuttle bus service. Improvements at both stations include the installation of brand new windscreens, platform lighting, benches, trash receptacles, guard rails and ADA tactile warning strips on the platforms. Both stations were painted and the fare control areas were reconfigured to enable better customer flow. Structural renovations include the installation of new columns, platform rubbing boards, and new mezzanine floors. While service at these stations will be restored, there is still work to be completed, including the installation of new windows, and a new exterior façade to the mezzanine.

“Governor Cuomo’s leadership has helped provide funding for the MTA’s Capital Program, which helps fuel our station renewal program, in Brooklyn and throughout our system,” said NYC Transit President Veronique “Ronnie” Hakim. “The completion of work at Saratoga Av and Pennsylvania Av and planned work at the other stations will provide a welcoming atmosphere for our customers bringing seven stations that originally opened in the 1920’s to a state of good repair.”

The construction contracts awarded to EE Cruz Company Inc. call for station renewals at Sutter Av-Rutland Rd, Saratoga Av, Rockaway Av, Junius St, Pennsylvania Av and Van Siclen Av, as well as component repairs at New Lots Av. Renewal work was previously completed at Rockaway Av and Van Siclen Av in March 2016.

The next two stations scheduled to close for renewal along the New Lots Branch are Sutter Av-Rutland Rd and Junius St. Work is tentatively scheduled to begin at these two stations on October 3, 2016 for approximately five months, until Spring 2017. During this period, 3 trains and late night 4 trains will bypass Sutter Av-Rutland Rd and Junius St in both directions.

Similar to the previous temporary station closures during this project, New York City Transit will operate free shuttles buses to and from the Sutter Av-Rutland Rd and Junius St stations. The shuttle bus for Sutter Av-Rutland Rd will operate to and from the Crown Heights-Utica Av 34 station and the bus for Junius St will operate to and from the Rockaway Av 3 station. Service notices will be posted in all stations prior to the commencement of work, and announcements will be made on trains.

Remember the (B) to 57 St, I'm hearing that they will be replacing a switch between the express tracks north of 96 St and there will a speed restriction since they will use skeletonized tracks in that area.

In addition to the rush hour change for the (3), the weekend (2) will only run between 96 St and Flatbush Av, making local stops north of Times Square. The (5) will replace the (2) in the Bronx while shuttle buses replace the Dyre Avenue line, as usual. Also, the (S) 42nd Street shuttle will run 24/7 Friday to Monday.

Imagine if you're a Train Operator normally on the overnight (3) and you're told to work the Shuttle instead .

They're doing work along Lenox Avenue actually and the switch work is being done at 148th Street

Not that this is major, but I never noticed a <7> g.o. that involves a stop at 74 St.

Well, they have the means to do it, so I guess it makes sense to do so. It’s one of the few places where a local station can function as an express stop—another being Kings Highway on the Sea Beach Line.

<pic removed>

They apparently like to keep full service at 74 Street unless otherwise impossible to maintain a full transfer between the Flushing and Queens Blvd lines, especially with the (E) running via 63rd Street.

Just too much going on since there will be a lot of Halloween events downtown that weekend.  Will confuse people bad.

I was primarily referring to the (D) portion of that service change.

This is arguably worse than that (D) service change during the holiday season where it went via 6th Avenue in one direction and 8th Avenue in the other.
