The extension might be to connect to an actual subway line or to fix up Essex again.

the being extended to lower manhattan is so that weekend 6th ave passengers can connect with the rerouted on the broadway line at chinatown-canal st

Very unlikely as the line will still have access to it's home yard. Same goes for the .

The is also running via Whitehall, presumably to make room for the to run via the bridge and 4 Ave express, and also maybe for the connection at Jay.

Nothings impossible. Something can happen on Concourse that will restrict the from gaming access to Bedford Park Yard, and in turn will gain a R160 from the .

Since both the and switch southern platforms at Coney island, my belief is that at least a few R68s and R160s could be mixed around to keep consistent service.

 

But I'm not a genie so let's see.

It took them long enough. It's obvious they've known about this major service change for some time now. I know I've said this many times now, but I don't appreciate how there's no information about this until practically the last minute.

You mean to tell me they expect the and to fill in for the in Manhattan and the in Brooklyn at the same time? Man, I hope we get a blizzard that weekend that wipes out this insanity:

 No trains running

    trains, M3, M100 and  free shuttle buses provide alternate service
Weekend, 11:30 PM Fri to 5 AM Mon, Feb 24 - 27

 

 Trains replace the  in Brooklyn

With the running on 8 minute intervals instead of 12, it shouldn't be too bad. But, I do agree that it might not be enough.

They also increase the  service to 8 min headways when the  is suspended

At 42 St-Grand Central I saw trains terminating at the uptown express track because of the switches. That was interesting.

 

Forgive me for my ignorance, but was there a particular reason why the is even running at all if it's only running between 180 St and 42 St? The seem to be providing all the alternate service.

There is work going on near the Joralemon street tubes. They don't want to squish all 3 lines into the City Hall Loop so they just cut the short. Ehhhh, the serves the same purpose on its normal service pattern, so whats ur point? The is extra.

I know about the loop situation. I meant that the was made redundant and could have been suspended entirely. If anything it could have been the that short-turned so the wouldn't be as redundant.
