Planned Subway Service Changes

Recommended Posts

This is one of the reasons I would be looking long-term at extending Phase 2 across 125 with a connection to the 8th Avenue line at St. Nicholas Avenue.  That way, in such a situation with the (4) you could have either the (Q) or (T) or both be extended to run with the (D) on the Concourse Line to Bedford Park Boulevard (aside from having such a line run to 125-Broadway to connect to the (1) ).

Jeez. Where aren't you extending the SAS. I've heard LGA, the bronx and now this from you.

And needless to say, JUST ADD (D) SERVICE! We don't need to spend an extra billion on connecting an already pricy crosstown extension to the bronx just so the MTA can run extra service from the east side when the (4) is out for mx.

Or you could extend the (T) into the Bronx as an alternative to the (D) along 3 Avenue. The usual (4) riders would use the (5) or (6) to transfer to the (T).

The connection in this case is not just for that.  The main reasons for such an extension I repeated ad nauseum, I was specifically looking at this case.

Or you could extend the (T) into the Bronx as an alternative to the (D) along 3 Avenue. The usual (4) riders would use the (5) or (6) to transfer to the (T).

And then terminate both the (D) and (T) on different levels at White Plains Rd and Gun Hill Rd. That way, there would be cross-Bronx connectivity and a bit fewer riders on the (2)(5).

A potential problem would be that the (T) never connects to the (4) in the Bronx, and the (D) never connects to the (6) at all. But (2)(5) riders have two chances to take the (T) - at Gun Hill Rd and at 3 Av/149 St.

Well now I know to steer well clear of the (R) train those weekends...

Now this is interesting.

Even with the reduced headways, the (W) is likely tying up the Astoria line during these midday express run G.O.s. Shifting the secondary line away from Ditmars should speed up the service somewhat. However, I don't believe they should slash the headways of the (W) if it's running to 96 Street.

How long will it take the MTA to just send the (N) to 96th and have the (W) run normally during this GO?

As a rider:

20 minute headways on the Astoria line? No thanks.

As a bean counter:

20 minute headways on the Astoria line? This will save us a fortune! stirthepot.gif

If the (W) was the only service running to Astoria, why would it run on 20 min headways? If the (N) was sent to 96th the (W) would be running to Astoria at its normal 10-min headways. That's what I meant by running normally

The service change website for the weekend of March 25th now has the (5) to Utica/New Lots instead of the (4) to E180. Looks like the (MTA) woke up and used their brain

However, the strip maps are still mismatched. They light up in the right areas, but they're using cars with (4) strip maps.

Is there a way to label it a (5) but use a (4) strip map, or should they just shut it off? A lot of scratching heads on the (5) today...

At the very least they have audible announcements a lot better than when I was coming up with Redbirds and terrible PA systems and roll signs.

Funny you mention that.

Does anyone else notice a screeching sound on R46 & R68 trains along 53rd St (MANHTN), 7th & Flatbush (B)(Q), and Queensbridge? Is it the walling, the trains, or Platform controller's audio feedback?

Is it possible to transplant R160 Strip maps on R142-R143 cars? They're both Panasonic, or no?

I think he means upgrade to  FINDS with 142 and 143 class cars. Shouldnt be an issue the CPU has the stops just needs to display.

I mean if you only hear it with these classes of trains. Would have to be something with the Train no?

The strip maps are supposed to be shut off when there's a reroute.

Also, they're using (4) line crews for the most part; they're probably not used to turning the strip maps off like the (5) crews when they used to get equipment with (2) line strip maps every other day..

Just took the (5) to Barclays and back. Both times they were (5) assigned cars.
