It looks like the other shoe has dropped for the eastern Queens Blvd shutdown.

(R) No trains between Queens Plaza and 71 Av

(E)(F) trains provide alternate service
Weekends, Saturday and Sunday, Jul 8 - 9  •  Jul 15 - 16

(R) service operates between Bay Ridge-95 St and Queens Plaza.

For local service in Queens, take the (E) or (F) instead.

• Transfer between (E) and (R) trains at Queens Plaza.
• Transfer between (F) and (R) trains at 34 St-Herald Sq.

Notes: (E) trains run local between Queens Plaza and 71 Av all weekend.
            (F) trains run local between 36 St and 71 Av all weekend.

Despite being listed for only two weekends, this service is in effect every weekend next month with the exception of July 1. The weekend of the 22nd, (R) service will run to 9 Avenue for ongoing station rehab work.

On a separate note, I really wish the MTA would figure out how they're running the (2) and (5) trains during the Clark St closure. Are (2) trains running to Dyre Av as per the special schedules or what?

I'm aware that some changes have not been posted for late July, but I will update them as we progress through the month.

And a quick reminder to those who are aware of the major changes coming up: Not everyone follows up on the planned weekend work as most of us here do, so do not harshly criticize anyone if they are surprised about a certain GO or reroute. With that being said:

Long-term Major routes from now through Spring 2018:

(2)(3) No service in Brooklyn; (4)(5) Provides alternate service

(M) Service operates between Forest Hills and Broadway Junction, weekdays. Weekends, between Essex St and Broadway Junction. Late nights, no service. Note: Beginning Sept 1, (M) Shuttle service will run between Metropolitan Ave and Myrtle-Wyckoff Avs.

(1) No service north of 137 St July: 22-24, 29-31

(1) Daytime reduced service north of 137 St: July 15-16

(2) No service north of East 180 St: July 22-24, 29-31

(2) Operates between 241 St and South Ferry: July 1-3

(4) Split service at 125 St; Local service in Manhattan: July 1-3, 15-17

(5) No service north of 86 St: July 1-3

(5) Split service at East 180 St; (Section 1 between 241 St and E 180 St) (Section 2: Between Dyre Av and Flatbush Av): July 8-9

(6) Split service at 125 St: July 22-24, 29-31

(A)(C) via Rutgers tube, both directions: July 8-10, 15-17

(E)(F) No service East of 71 Av; local in Queens: July 8-10, 15-17, 22-24, 30-31

(G) No service south of Hoyt-Schermerhorn; Spilt service at Bedford-Nostrand: July 1-3, 8-10, 15-17

(N) via West End in both directions: July 29-31

(N)(R) Brooklyn-bound service operates via Manhattan Bridge: July 1-3

(R) No service south of 36 St (Brooklyn); Service operates between Forest Hills and 9 Ave: July 1-3

(R) No service between Queens Plaza and 71 Avenue - Jul. 7-8, 15-16

An update.

Can someone make sense of these service changes:

(2)(5) Uptown trains run express from 3 Av-149 St to E 180 St

Weekend, 3:45 AM to 10 PM, Sat and Sun, Jul 8 - 9

(5) Service operates in two sections:
  1. Between Dyre Av and Flatbush Av
  2. Between 241 St and E 180 St

Weekend, 3:45 AM Sat to 10 PM Sun, Jul 8 - 9

(5) E 180 St-bound trains run express from 241 St to E 180 St

Weekend, 3:45 AM Sat to 10 PM Sun, Jul 8 - 9

So, it appears we have the (2017) normal (5) rerouted to Dyre Av from Flatbush Av, a (5) shuttle between 241 Street and E 180 Street and apparently a truncated northbound (2) at E 180 Street. And they wonder why nobody understands the service changes.

I'll do you one better.

(G) is single tracking between Schermerhorn and Bedford. To ride to Queens, you gotta change trains. They have signs saying all service is on the Queens-bound platform.

Why do they have handwritten signs telling people that the local track goes to Schermerhorn? Because someone at (MTA) thought passengers would just 'figure it out.'

How would that work with both the (5) shuttle and (2) terminating there?

Actually the (2) will still go to Dyre, albeit on a 12 minute headway (normal headway is 8)

(2) : Dyre-South Ferry, 12 minute headways

(5) : Dyre-Flatbush, 12 minute headways

(5) shuttle : 241st St-E 180th St, 12 minute headways

Only the shuttle trains will terminate at East 180th Street. I'm guessing the 2/5 from Manhattan could switch back to the local track after West Farms Square in order to let the shuttles turn on M track.

Lance, I assume you are a regular (5) train rider. I just want to ask why do they always switch the (2) and (5) Bronx terminals whenever the Clark Street tubes shut down? Any particular reason? I honestly find that setup weird. They should just keep the (2) and (5) Bronx terminals the same rather than confuse passengers.

Then how hard would it be for them to put "Dyre Av-bound trains..." or something like that?

The routes are run as they are to keep the train crews on the appropriate routes. The (5) from 241 Street to Flatbush Av is a similar length to its 7th Avenue counterpart and thus will run with (2) line crews. Similarly, the (2) route from Dyre Av to South Ferry is close enough to the normal (5) route to Bowling Green that it will use the normal (5) line crews. It's more beneficial for the train crews than it is for the riders. With that said, Dyre Ave riders are making out like bandits with almost 24/7 Bronx - Manhattan service through either the weekday (5) or weekend (2).

The (5) is extended to Bowling Green late Friday evenings(10:13, 10:26, 10:38, 10:48) but not early Monday mornings(4:02, 4:22, 4:42) for some reason. Might as well plug the gap in service at Bowling Green from 4:57 to 6:18 and keep the (5) running instead of having extra (2) trains running to both 241 and Dyre at the same time. Also having (5) Dyre shuttles running with (2) trains to Dyre is a waste.

Metrocard.jpgMTA LIRR will cross-honor MetroCard for travel between Penn Station and Jamaica or Kew Gardens LIRR stations. NYCT Transit customers should present their MetroCard to the LIRR conductor.

Free LIRR Rides for all!

Be careful, there are bridgeplates for westbound trains at Kew Gardens, Forest Hills, and Woodside.

I feel there's gonna be a conga line at 71st ave because of the frequency of (E) and (F) service.

Also, are they doing any fastrack type repairs to the stations "north" of 71st Ave? It would make sense.

How did you find that?

Which LIRR branch serving Penn Station stops at Forest Hills and Kew Gardens?

Free LIRR rides  :D

Babylon Branch and Long Beach, not every train stops on those branches stops at those two stations on weekends though.

The LIRR train time app is really useful for times/branches and prices.
