Planned Subway Service Changes

1/26-1/27

No (R) trains between 95th st and 36th st because of elevator installation 

Free shuttle buses provide alternative service between 59thst and bay ridge 95th st

(R) trains run via the (D) line after 36thst to/from 9th ave the last stop

(N) trains provide service between 36th st and 59th st

Personally I don't know why the (D) can't go to WTC with the (E). Both run on 12 minute headways so they won't run over the terminal's designed capacity, and the (F) and (M) wouldn't have to go through any more unneeded merging.

It would usually say in the weekend G.Os when/if the (D) Train runs on 12 minute headways and considering its not on there, its most likely running on its regular 8-10 minutes headways those weekends.

(C) No service north of 145 St; Express service in Manhattan: Feb 2-3, 9-10, *16-18

(D) No service between 59 St and Stilwell Av; trains run to 2 Av or World Trade Center; Local service in Manhattan: Feb 2-4, 9-11

(D) Reduced service: *Feb 16-18

(E)(F)(R) All Manhattan bound service is express in Queens: Feb 1-4; Queens bound: Feb 9-11

(E)(F) Service is local in Queens, both directions: *Feb 16-19

(J) No service between Crescent St and Jamaica Center: Feb 2-3, 9-10, *16-18

(L) No service between 8 Av and Broadway Junction: Feb 1-4, 8-11, *15-19

(M) Operates to 96 St to supplement the (L): Feb 1-4, 8-11, *15-19

(N) Operates via West End, both directions: Feb 1-4

(N) Reduced service: *Feb 16-18

(N) No service between Ditmars Blvd and Queensboro Plaza: Feb 16-17, 23-24

(Q) Reduced service: Feb 9-10, *16-18

(Q) Uptown service is local in Manhattan: *Feb 16-19

So how would that work? Would Qs loop through Stilwell, or would there be 2 distinct Q lines each terminating at Stilwell? And how would that be apparent to passengers, which was which?

What if they continue doing this closure "under the radar" during the partial closure to get back at Cuomo?

So why can't they "test out" Cuomo's plan during this time? You would think they would at least test it out during this period.

For this overnight and weekend times in February and March, we’re focused on long-term reliability improvement work. Here are a few highlights of what we’ll be doing:

Removing and replacing all existing 16,000 feet of rails, plates and the ties supporting the track

Relocating and replacing cables

Rebuilding Bedford Av switches to be ready to support the one-track operation starting in April

Installing continuous welded rail at Bushwick-Aberdeen, between Jefferson and DeKalb, at Montrose and from Lorimer to Graham

The work requires full service closures because:

Track work: In order to perform the rail, plate and tie replacement, we use specialized track equipment that needs the full track access.

Switch work: The tracks south of Bedford Av have an “interlocking plant,” also known as a “double crossover,” which is what allows us to switch trains from one track to another. The switches and signals that form this interlocking are located on both tracks. (My note below)

The excuse they made sounds similar to what they said in the other plan save for switch work.

One thing I would do during this is overnights, have the (M) operate to 96th-2nd as well as weekends.

The (D) and (N) would go rogue local around the 8-9pm hour for years (even without a GO) but the headway cuts are more of a recent thing.

They also used to fumigate a (D) at Stillwell, run it empty up Culver and start up again in Manhattan just to avoid all the work trains. I think they stopped doing that recently too...

That train ran from Broadway-Lafayette. I did not realize they got rid of that trip. Time to update wikipedia. Do you know when they stopped making this trip? Thanks.

That trip is no longer in the base schedule but it is still done ad-hoc by line supervision on evenings when a lot of work trains are scheduled to leave 38th St yard.

No (N) train service between queensboro plaza and astoria ditmars blvd for 13 weekends between parts of march through june due to station renovation at the astorid blvd station and track work. Six weekends have already been identified with the rest to be determined.

(F) No service south of Church Av

(E)(F) Service is local in Queens

(L) No service between Broadway Junction and 8 Av

(M) Operates to 96 St to supplement the (L) 

(N) No service north of Queensboro Plaza

Staten Island Railway: No service between Jefferson Av and Hugenot

Note: Most of these changes run for multiple weekends into March.
