Foamtastic Bus Fantasy Timetable Covers

Fixed that for you. Picked Sept. 1st as the 1st Sunday in September.

This just had me thinking, I know money's tight, but as far as Service investments go, I guess the mythical Bx50, Q94, planned B62 to Midtown, etc. are going to remain just that?

About the schedules, since SBS got blue, and Express green, I think the MTA should make everything Limited-related purple.

Examples:

Granted, I know the blue-and-purple split for Local and Limited routes (which would be most Limited routes anyway) is awfully... colorful.

Remember when I mentioned I thought Limited timetables should be purple?

Here's an example of what I meant.

Who needs Gorgor's schedule maker now? :P

Although, this was pretty easy to do since I was only changing color and a few other things, nothing big. Also the fonts the MTA [from the Helevetica family] don't exist in Inkscape so they look pretty weird.

It's pretty understandable that Gorgor's schedule maker is preferable, since the formatting is for the already done for you. Similarly, I made the M98 timetable very quickly, since I wasn't changing much aside from color. Actually thinking up a full legit timetable and formatting it would take some time.

Irrelevant, but Inkscape can't arrange documents into individual pages, thus why I had everything joined together. I suppose seperate pages vs. individual documents doesn't make that much of a difference, but I want to find and master a program that does, so my timetables will be that little bit better.

Wow, I don't check the thread for a few days and there are a bunch of replies.

Here you go guys:

CDTA you wanted a regular Bus Co. template right? That's what I assumed you meant by 'MTAB'.

That's pretty good for your first try!

Yeah, figuring out which fonts to use is annoying. The MTA tends to use the Helevetica family, which as you can see aren't on Inkscape.

I tend to use:

Arial Black size 15 for the text at the top that says 'Bus Timetable Effective...'

Although, sometimes I try to use Arial Black and Inkscape just registers the bold version of regular Arial, which isn't really the same, so I just copy and paste the text.

Impact for the Route name

Arial Black size 16 for Bold text on the bottom and Arial size 15 Italic for the Italic text

The 'runs between X and Y' text I just keep in Helevetica, even though it's not registered it doesn't look off like the other pieces of text. Sometimes the text is jumbled together, so you have to delete the text and re-type it, and it'll have proper spacing.

I like to use the top of NYCT schedules and the MTA Bus bus graphic (like this) just in anticipation of their merger sometime soon. But that's just my style. Do what works for you.

I used to save everything I made on Inkscape in PNG image form, but I started saving them in PDF form and uploading them to pdfuploader.com. It's actually legit. I was looking for a while for a site to host PDFs. Maybe someday, I'll wake up and all my files will be gone or I'll have to pay for them or something, but for now it's really convenient.

Inkscape can only open one page of a PDF at a time, which I'm sure you've seen, other programs can stitch stuff together, but I've yet to use them.

As for making my own timetables, I guess I could copy paste the image of the timetable from Gorgor's site and compress it, but it would look weird and I kind of want to make authentically, plus I'd have to re-color everything blue or Teal for SBS schedules with paint, which would look kind of choppy. Adobe Illustrator is bad because the schedules are password-protected, which I didn't realize before. RTS CNG Command used Adobe Illustrator to edit his maps, which I don't know how he did, you'd have to ask him.

I had no idea how to do this stuff at first, but once you get hang of it, it'll feel great doing graphics yourself and not waiting on anyone else. I'll make another post soon for map-making. Google Maps is nice for showing distances and stop locations, but I think Inkscape is a lot better for just making maps, even though it takes a little longer.
