YankeesPwnMets Posted August 21, 2012 Share #1 Posted August 21, 2012 Do the R160s still have the V and W's programs?
DanTheTransitMan Posted August 21, 2012 Share #2 Posted August 21, 2012 Yes. The MTA doesn't axe the programing off of a subway car just because a certain line has been cut. The 160's even have some weird programed routes on them, like the D to Far Rockaway.
Quill Depot Posted August 21, 2012 Share #3 Posted August 21, 2012 Agreed, It's not worth it to take off the programming.
CDTA Posted August 21, 2012 Share #4 Posted August 21, 2012 I saw a to Canarise program on the two months ago, so i'm gonna say.... No.
pjbr40 Posted August 21, 2012 Share #5 Posted August 21, 2012 I am pretty sure it stayed in their until their computer does not have enough memory.
Mr Railfan Posted August 21, 2012 Share #6 Posted August 21, 2012 yes, the 143s and 160s still have the and programs, but they did reprogram the program. Now it says 'via the line" when its in queens and Manhattan.
paulrivera Posted August 21, 2012 Share #7 Posted August 21, 2012 The R160's even have to 96th Street/2nd Avenue on them. There's a lot of weird stuff programmed in there like Brighton skip-stop service, to Stillwell, yet there's no program to 168th Street.

mark1447 Posted August 21, 2012 Share #9 Posted August 21, 2012 I wonder how much HDD (or if not Memory) the computer have to carry all these routes. ..
Guest Lance Posted August 21, 2012 Share #10 Posted August 21, 2012 I know it's a lot more than the 142(a)s; that's for sure. The R160's even have to 96th Street/2nd Avenue on them. There's a lot of weird stuff programmed in there like Brighton skip-stop service, to Stillwell, yet there's no program to 168th Street. See, you're thinking way too logically about this. In the MTA's mind (or at least the people who program the trains), the D is more likely to run to Far Rockaway than the E to 168 St would.

Common sense never has been a strong suit at the MTA...
Snowblock Posted August 22, 2012 Share #12 Posted August 22, 2012 The 142/3's have tiny, tiny flash storage. This was back in the day when a 1GB flash card cost over $200. The 160's have much much more. For the record, the 142's do NOT have a 9 program, and the only 1 and 3 programs they have are the basic ones (not even a 3 to Times Square). The Shuttle is in there though!
T to Dyre Avenue Posted August 22, 2012 Share #13 Posted August 22, 2012 yes, the 143s and 160s still have the and programs, but they did reprogram the program. Now it says 'via the line" when its in queens and Manhattan. I'm surprised they even took the time out to update the program. But what was the point of doing that? A good chunk of the R142 program is probably just for the . 5 to Dyre, Nereid, 180th, 149th; 5 to Bowling Green, Flatbush, Utica, and New Lots; 5 via 7th Avenue, 5 to Woodlawn (someone used that once as a workaround to get the 149th announcements to play properly on a split 5 GO.) TheSubwayStation Posted August 22, 2012 Share #16 Posted August 22, 2012 Well, why an to 168th. The is just meant to be Queens Blvd express, a route to Jamaica. An to 168th would be the or a short turned . First of all, in the event of a GO or unplanned service change, you can't just (seemingly randomly) create a new letter and have people understand what it is. Second of all, conductors aren't supposed to change the letter/number of a train mid-route, so they're not supposed to change an to a if it gets sent to 168 St (although, that has happened a couple times and the foaming was spectacular .) Brighton Express Posted August 22, 2012 Share #17 Posted August 22, 2012 The R160's even have to 96th Street/2nd Avenue on them. There's a lot of weird stuff programmed in there like Brighton skip-stop service, to Stillwell, yet there's no program to 168th Street. Did you just say... to CI? Nah I am just kidding around. This is not via Brighton, it is via Culver. The program is Culver Express, and the is Culver Local.

DanTheTransitMan Posted September 18, 2012 Share #21 Posted September 18, 2012 I'm surprised they even took the time out to update the program. But what was the point of doing that? The MTA did that because they have to bring back the W when the first phase of the second avenue subway is complete. Their mentality is let's do it now so we don't have to worry about it later. Hell come to think of they even have the program for the Q to 96th street. That just shows you how much they get prepared for these types of events.
