Sept. 2012 Bus Schedule Changes

BM5 via Woodhaven

Well I've learned some interesting things about Gerritsen Beach express bus riders. Apparently some of them use the BM3 because it runs later to and from the city. The problem is that the stops that were somewhat close to Gerritsen Beach were taken away (I do recall being happy when this happened since it made my commute MUCH quicker on the BM3 from Shore Blvd) to make the commute faster for BM3 riders, to which some Gerritsen Beach residents protested. I think it is a good idea for me to contact Senator Golden about this to see if anything can be done to make both communities happy by providing more service or combining routes or something. It does no good to keep chopping away at BM4 service which is one reason why folks are flocking to the other BM express buses, leaving the BM4 with fewer riders. The problem is that the disabled folks that use the BM4 have been protesting saying that with the discontinued stops, their commute via the express bus has been even more difficult now and they also don't feel safe waiting at the BM3 express bus stop by the projects there by Batchelder.

What? I thought Gerritsen Beach was a wonderful community nowhere near the projects. <_<

Sucks what they doing to the B6 by making the LTDs only go to Rock Park and the locals do the whole route

It's probably an error. They could be referring to the time it leaves New Lots Avenue or to the time the corresponding local trip leaves Rockaway Parkway. (Either that, or those trips are short-turns). I highly doubt they'd have the limiteds short-turn while the locals do the full route.

You think everything can be done instantly? MCH isn't even FINISHED yet, meaning if it was done now, those buses would be on the street....

lol... Most of them are on the street now, so it wouldn't be much of a difference. The so called outside depot has all of the fences in crappy condition, so why even bother.

QM1 and QM3 is the most at dangered. Have saturday and sunday removed on the QM15 and QM4.

Nope. The last thing I would like for the QM15 is to get Saturday service slashed. Of anything it needs Sunday service. The QM4 I guess is there for connectivity purposes, and the bus gets useful ridership off peak

Look at the Ridership reports bascially no one rides them. If the MTA was smart they would have the BM5 on Saturday replace the QM15 since they both run on woodhaven. And ppl have the Q21 and Q41 to connect to the BM5

The BM5 is an extra option for Woodhaven Blvd, not to be used as a replacement. And the BM5 only garners a few queens riders per day probably 8 of those 224 riders per day are from queens.

Also you do know most of the QM15 ridership is south of The Rockaway Blvd (A) station. The QM15 has decent ridership in Saturdays, more than the BM5

Not taking sides, but just so you guys know, the QM15 averages 7.9 riders per bus on Saturdays and the BM5 averages 5.2 riders per bus.

I'm saying 8 out of the 224 riders of the week. Not of the day. Still the QM15 has decent ridership

323,000 riders per year is not bad compared to some other other 7 day express buses

But the thing is that even though the BM5 has less ridership, the riders would have a longer trip time if it were eliminated compared with QM15 riders. QM15 riders in Lindenwood would have to take the Q21/41 to the BM5, whereas BM5 riders would have to take the B82 to the B2, and then go the long way through Brooklyn & Lower Manhattan to get to Midtown. Even if the BM2 were extended to Starrett City, it still takes a longer route to reach Midtown.

The thing is that weekday ridership is good, but Saturday ridership isn't.

yeah, I don't know about that.....

While the lindenwood folks do use their QM15, that usage does not count for most of the ridership on the route... you're minimizing the amt. of riders the QM15 gets along woodhaven by making that statement.....

The QM15 has decent ridership in Saturdays, more than the BM5

Easily.....

One question: from what depot are the new Brooklyn, Bronx, and Manhattan routes gonna be

I'm asking about the western Hunts Point, Far Westside Manhattan, DUMBO, WILLAMSBURG, and

ENY-Spring Creek bus routes

LaGuardia become all local routes, College Point become all express routes with 4 local routes.

I think the issue is the usefulness of the B35 limited. A few users have mentioned that it's no faster than the local. Limited service doesn't necessarily mean more frequent service. (I have no opinion on this, but I'm just saying what others have said)

You're right but the limiteds do help out to a certain extent

The major stops that get the most riders (from what I observed) are Rockaway, Utica, Nostrand, Flatbush & McDonald Avs. If there were no limiteds (with today's current ridership along the line), locals would be packed to the brim and traveling down in bunches (not that they don't do that anyway lol). The limiteds help spread out the riders and keep the locals moving.

What I would do along that line is extend the limited hours on Sunday (it ends at like 5 or 6) up until at least 9, and eliminate some of these limited stops. If one is going from Flatbush to New York, it doesn't matter which bus you get on since they both make the same exact stops

Yeah they help out to a certain extent - if you're traveling somewhere b/w sunset park & E. 18th or b/w utica & any point east of it..... It should not take me around 20 minutes on a LTD to get from E. 42nd to E 18th - that time is rather comparable to the local.... that's why I would take dollar cabs to get to the B.... well that, and having to wait for a bus you can even get on in the morning.....Buses are currently packed to the brim & travel in bunches with the LTD service.... lol.....

I would get rid of the B35 limited, Period.

for the heaviest used portion of the route, it doesn't solve much of anything..... I mean you ride other LTD's around the boroughs, and then you take the 35 LTD & you're like wtf, is this the LTD or the local....
