Metrorail breaks the all-time ridership record by carrying 19.2 million people in July

August 7, 2007

In July 2007, more people took trips on Metrorail than any other month in Metrorail’s 31-year history.

Ridership for the month was 19,281,809 and averaged 768,831 riders per weekday. The previous all-time high for monthly ridership was June 2007 when 19,085,358 trips were made and averaged 772,826 riders per weekday.

Last month, ridership exceed 770,000 on 12 weekdays and Metro achieved three top 10 ridership days in July, with the highest being 803,164 on Wednesday, July 18.

“The ridership totals for July were phenomonal,” said Metro General Manager John Catoe. “We are grateful to see more and more people choosing Metro. Typically, we see a spike in ridership as the region sees an influx of visitors riding along with our regular customers. However, when you combine beautiful weather, local sports events and concerts, and continued high gas prices it all contributes to bring record ridership to Metrorail.”
