KeystoneRegional Posted August 29, 2012 Share #1 Posted August 29, 2012 KESQ.com - " Supervisors say yes to expanded Amtrak service in Palm Springs and Indio. RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Riverside County supervisors voted today to back a proposal to establish daily Amtrak service in the Coachella Valley. In a 4-0 vote -- with Supervisor Jeff Stone absent -- the board rallied behind a Coachella Valley Association of Governments' resolution urging Amtrak to move ahead with its Sunset Limited expansion plan. Under the plan, Amtrak would schedule daily passenger stops in the Coachella Valley on its Los Angeles-to-San Antonio line. Meadowbrook resident Gary Grant, a self-described citizen watchdog who rarely misses a board meeting, questioned the motive behind the county's action, asking whether someone in power locally had "relatives in San Antonio?" Turbo19 Posted August 29, 2012 Share #2 Posted August 29, 2012 Well it is about time some progress has been made in the valley. For what it is worth, my local TA, RTA is starting a peak express service spliting some runs with the desert TA, Sunline, to allow commuters access the the City of Riverside which is home to the Downtown Metrolink (commuter rail) station, allowing access into Downtown Los Angeles. I do wish however that there was some sort of Metrolink access to the valley. Additionally, the Plam Springs station could be better located and accessible to transit.
