Art Vandelay Posted September 18, 2012 Share #201 Posted September 18, 2012 Nothing involves the R143s being moved to the C. R143s have CBTC, R179s will not upon delivery. R179s therefore will not be able to run on the L. However, the order being mostly 4 car sets is not a mixup. 260 in 4 car sets. 40 in 5 car sets. Eric B Posted September 18, 2012 Share #202 Posted September 18, 2012 It was originally the opposite of that. What is the purpose of so many four car sets, then? ENY doesn't need them (that's where the rumor about the came from). The only other thing it could be is for the . While I have heard rumors of the getting the new cars; this would about seal it. INDman Posted September 19, 2012 Share #205 Posted September 19, 2012 Can 207th Street barn maintain them though? I know the overhaul shop works on NTTs but the barn doesn't.
Art Vandelay Posted September 19, 2012 Share #206 Posted September 19, 2012 If they can't, I suspect they will have to make whatever modifications are necessary... 480 foot trains do solve the length issue though.
INDman Posted September 19, 2012 Share #207 Posted September 19, 2012 length isn't really the issue, HAVAC support is the main issue. Look at what they had to do at East 180th St and Corona.
