nostalgia Posted September 29, 2012 Share #1 Posted September 29, 2012 I don't have any statistics. It seems the main reason LIRR passengers get off at Hunterspoint Avenue and Long Island City instead of Woodside is a shorter subway ride to Grand Central. But with trains going to Grand Central, will it be necessary to operate to Hunterspoint and Long Island City?
Vistausss Posted September 29, 2012 Share #2 Posted September 29, 2012 There are also a lot of people who work near Hunterspoint and LIC that live on Long Island. So it's also used by working people. Plus Woodside isn't an option for Long Islanders anyway if you're not living near the PW. Not to mention the fact that HP and LIC are rush hour peak direction stations only so not many people will even benefit from the connection to the apart from maybe a few people coming from the Lower Montauk in the AM rush. Amtrak7 Posted September 29, 2012 Share #3 Posted September 29, 2012 They will remain, if not as stations, as yards, since ESA can't fit C3's and Jamaica doesn't have the capacity to turn trains during the rush hours and (everything must run on a load-and-go or dump-and-go operation)
