pjbr40 Posted September 30, 2012 Share #1 Posted September 30, 2012 Does anyone know why there is two routes split between Secaucus Junction and Ridgewood? I am referring to one train go toward Rutherford and the other go to Kingsland then meet together at Ridgewood. How this happen and why?
checkmatechamp13 Posted September 30, 2012 Share #2 Posted September 30, 2012 Well, according to Wikipedia, it was originally intended as a bypass so the freight trains wouldn't clog up the commuter line through PAssaic & Paterson. Then as the towns along the line got built up, eventually passenger service grew on that line.
Snowblock Posted October 10, 2012 Share #3 Posted October 10, 2012 The current Main line is not the original one. It used to connect into the Montclair line. Also note that the Bergen line used to run through Croxton yard, and was reconfigured when Secaucus opened.
