59th street because it is the only station with an unused platform (at least those that are served by trains).

For the second, 34th street-herald square because it is the only option where all trains from a manhattan trunk line stop (all Broadway lines and all sixth avenue lines).

Wrong reason, and no.

Since nobody is going, I'll go.

Canal Street (A)  (C)  (E)

59th Street-Columbus Circle (A)  (B)  (C)  (D)

Queens Plaza (E)  (M)  (R)

Hint: Track Services

And also:

34th Street-Herald Square (N)  (Q)  (R)

Jay Street-Metrotech (A)  (C)  (F)

Franklin Avenue (2)  (3)  (4)  (5)

59th Street-Columbus Circle (A)  (B)  (C)  (D)

Hint: Several Trains Serving One Branch

First:

59th street. It's the only station where the Local and Express Services don't merge to cross the river.

Second:

34th street, It's the only station with where the services don't split before/after/

First: 59th Street (A)(B)(C)(D) either because all the tracks south of the station. In Canal Street, there are tracks not in use in revenue service on both sides and same with Queens Plaza.

or because there is no revenue service via a double crossover like there is at both Canal Street and Queens Plaza.

Second: Jay Street (A)(C)(F) because the (A)(C) and the (F) split at behind both ends of the station, so the (F) basically don't share a branch, but only one station with the (A)(C)

Wrong reason for both.

Hint to second one: Transfers to several possible trains serving one branch.

First:59 st (A)  (B)  (C)  (D)  only station with two locals two express

Second:Franklin Ave  (2)  (3)  (4)  (5)  (S) only station with tranfers to 5 different trunk lines

No, and no.

Since time has passed, I might as well tell.

First: 59th Street because it is the only station where express and local trains are where they are supposed to be. Local (M) and (C) trains stop on the express track before switching to local.

Second: Jay Street because it is the only station that doesn't involve the "Subway Shuffle". It is where two trains that serve the same branch arrive at the same time, then people try to catch the train that leaves first.

That was tricky...I never knew the  (C) swicthed from express to local before 59st

No, it is something regarding the location of the lines relative to the yard.

The (N) is the only line that terminates at the station closely associated with the yard it comes out of.

Also, first post in months. Woo.
