This is a new Invitation for Bid (IFB) for 6 electric buses.

Word is that New Flyer, Nova, and Proterra are allowed to bid, but BYD is not.

Ok so, I looked at the referendum for the electric buses. They want something that can go a minimum of 200 miles. The Gillig electric is not capable of that barely making the 200 mark. The New Flyer Xcelsior charge NG can barely cap over 210 midrange although the top model offers 251. The Proterra ZX5 can go up to 370 with the max model and up to 232 with the + model. BYD only makes 160, so they are out of the competition.  Nova would be too expensive and it's range is unknown. Therefore, Proterra will more than likely be the winner of this pilot contract.....

Doubt it. That's too logical.

200 is the common minimum, but no bus can/will do that much in that range during a single day run. If that were the case, them XN40s would already be hitting the 500k mark and would be retiring right about now since in Long Island, it's either hitting 500k miles or going over your retirement age that institutes fleet retirement.

For fleet uniformity and long-term support, it would be smarter to pick either Gillig or New Flyer. It would lower the cost of maintenance as parts are mostly interchangeable.

The LFSe range goes between 210 & 290 miles.

The performance and usage will determine how long it'll actually last during an average day cycle.

They did mention that their wish list will not be fulfilled completely and that common sense is in play. It will be interesting to see who gets it in the end
