Hurricane Sandy: Before and After the Storm: Subway service

LIPA does indeed provide the juice out here. With all 20 cars down here now, its a waiting game. The MTA can fully assess damage along the viaduct checking 3rd rail, signals and switches until power is restored by LIPA. There's no time frame for that yet since the projects out here are running on generators. Only downtown Far Rock has power and its not even fully. Ill tell you one thing, the smartest thing LIRR did out here was build that viaduct.

Yeah, the (7) line overnight single tracking GO is back already. However, the MTA tends to avoid running GOs between Thanksgiving and New Years, simply because of all the extra weekend traffic that the city gets. Chances are that they aren't going to do any non-timely work until 2013.

104th Street really isn't that far from the casino, y'know....

Yes, and I used to walk from there or 111th to Aqueduct (about equal distance), especially when there was a G.O. and didn't want to bother with the buses on such G.O.'s to get there for racing.

The problem there are those who would not do that walk.

Understood, and they do have to find such measures because many feel we will be seeing more of these "superstorms" on a regular basis.

I agree they need to put in more flood mitigation measures, and I agree we'll see another major storm sometime soon, but Sandy was the storm of a Century. Trust me. We won't be seeing storms like that regularly.

Interesting, they went completely unmentioned on the website. They weren't just supplemental B49s or B68s?

I agree, most of the morning commuters I knew just took the B3 straight to the (F) on those days and didn't bother walking to Kings Highway or anything.

The casino is not the largest in the country. It's not even the largest in the northeast. IF the convention center is ever built then the things you've mentioned can be studied and/or acted on.

Dude I think he was getting at that I think he was trying to say that the convention center should be built there so the rockaway branch would gain enough traction to be reactivated. Personally I think Q53 is fast enough CMON it leaves cars in the DUST!!!! Rail would feel like overkill much. Plus It would be too costly to run it as a LIRR line anyway cause if it is not frequent every 10 mins like a subway if will be a FLOP!!!! Only way to do it is either extend MNRR after ESA is completed over rockaway branch OR convert the line into a subway yeah that would be even costlier. I just don't see the need though.

huh tell me more about that viaduct where it is and such. Do you think far rockaway branch or LB branch need more off peak service if so to what service level?

why can't the MTA Bus just add more buses to QM16 and QM17?

Err call up MTA and have em do it. Make a suggestion.

Funny not enough people lazy enough to not walk get your ass movin now and make the 5 min walk. So your telling me that the subway should change to accommodate a fatass who can't make a 10 min walk CMON MAN. We are an active city buddy Q37 is nice enough.

Sorry for the late reply, no they weren't supplemental B68s or B49s. All of the buses were signed up as "Subway Shuttle" and customers were advise to take "Shuttle buses" at Kings Highway. I saw some C40lfs and Rts' and a LFSA on the shuttle bus route.

Will you please I mean ASAP send this to the MTA now while your at it send this to NJtransit and MTA railroads LIRR and MNRR. It will be perfect for the (A) line and LIRR eastern branches. It will be perfect to allow future rail expansion like reactivating bay ridge LIRR ect.

Send this to the MTA and NJT they will LOVE you for it trust me.

I will tell some of my friends about it.
