INDman Posted November 19, 2012 Share #76 Posted November 19, 2012 A few days ago This one? It was taken over the summer after a trip. The car came back from upstate after they wanted WAY too much to fix it.
Art Vandelay Posted November 19, 2012 Share #77 Posted November 19, 2012 While they certainly acquired many companies other than Hawker Siddeley Canada, Hawker was the company which today's North American Bombardier transportation is most directly descended from. yeayo Posted November 19, 2012 Share #78 Posted November 19, 2012 Actually, Alstom and Kawasaki did a joint bid as ALSKAW for the R179, but lost to Bombardier. However, had ALSKAW been awarded the contract, I don't know if this would have meant both companies would build the cars or if it only meant that Kawasaki would build the cars and Alstom would provide propulsion. Still, I would really like to see MTA try something different, as long as it isn't AnsaldoBreda. As I said earlier, the MTA has a preference for manufacturers with New York operations, so other than Bombardier, Alstom, or Kawasaki, the only other manufacturer with a manufacturing facility in New York would be Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles (CAF). The plan on R179 was for Kawasaki to build the car shells and trucks and ship them up to Hornell for completion.
Culver Line Posted November 22, 2012 Share #79 Posted November 22, 2012 Are these expected to be more of the longitudinal seating cars?
Fan Railer Posted November 25, 2012 Share #80 Posted November 25, 2012 Are these expected to be more of the longitudinal seating cars? We don't even know if they'll be 60 or 75 ft yet. But regardless, seating will probably stay the same as current new tech cars.
qjtransitmaster Posted December 8, 2012 Share #81 Posted December 8, 2012 aren't R211s going to the SIR?
LTA1992 Posted December 8, 2012 Share #82 Posted December 8, 2012 No. When the 211 arrives, the R46s will go to SIR.
Art Vandelay Posted December 8, 2012 Share #83 Posted December 8, 2012 What the cars which go to Staten Island end up being designated probably won't be public for a long while. However, at this point, it is pretty clear that they will not be older cars transferred from mainline NYCT.
East New York Posted December 10, 2012 Share #84 Posted December 10, 2012 No so fast there Art. As of 12/09/2012, R211's are supposed to go to SIR after the R46's........ In 90 days or less it should be in black and white for all to see. I checked, checked, and double checked. R46's are still on the books for going to SIR. And so are the R211's. Que sera, sera
Art Vandelay Posted December 10, 2012 Share #85 Posted December 10, 2012 I would put substantial sums of money on the fact that the R46s will not see service on Staten Island again.
Grand Concourse Posted December 10, 2012 Share #86 Posted December 10, 2012 Lol, how much are we talking about? Either case, I don't care anymore. The MTA can do whatever they want to do. All I hope is those R46s runs for at least 5 years before being retired [just like with the ex-Bees running 3+ years with MTA Bus].
depotofrelax Posted January 11, 2013 Share #87 Posted January 11, 2013 Why is there delay that who got the award of building R211..... Like I do want to see R46 be retire.. If no one don't like R46 run only R & A. When no one dont like R32 run only C line... R32 will retire in 2 years in 2015 to 2017 ( that 222 cars will retire that 2015 - 2017 ) it will take 2 years to retire 222 cars of R32... between 2015 - 2017. mtattrain Posted January 13, 2013 Share #92 Posted January 13, 2013 We should honestly lock this thread until some new conference of the R211s comes up; no point in talking about a train that was just mentioned lol.
Metro CSW Posted January 13, 2013 Share #93 Posted January 13, 2013 Good point, mtattrain! This thread shouldn't even be touched yet. A contract haven't been awarded as of yet. To early to confirm anything and the is focused currently on deliveries of R188s, the upcoming development on the R179s and other operations. A thread hiatus should take order? Until some new info is being announced by you all know who! lol. Let's just we and see, shall we?
LTA1992 Posted January 13, 2013 Share #94 Posted January 13, 2013 The MTA said the award should be in 2015. We got a while to go.
DJ MC Posted January 13, 2013 Share #95 Posted January 13, 2013 The MTA said the award should be in 2015. We got a while to go. If the award is in 2015, then this thread should pretty much be closed until then. It's hard to have a discussion about something when it hasn't even been built yet. LTA1992 Posted January 13, 2013 Share #96 Posted January 13, 2013 Well, here are my thoughts, very rational btw lol Two possibilities (If there won't be too much of a shakeup): A: If The R68s stay on the , and , and don't go to SI, then (If there is an SIR option included) the R211 could pop up on the SIR and lines. B: If the some R68s are shifted to the and SIR, then the R211 could see service on the and a couple on the if there isn't enough 68s to go 'round. These are the only possibilities that I can think of. And don't misunderstand, I believe in the line"Let's wait and see". I just want to contribute something that makes sense and doesn't involve ridiculous shifting around of subway cars. On the , we all know that that is the Rockaway . But I didn't want to type it's entire name out lol
DJ MC Posted July 23, 2013 Share #97 Posted July 23, 2013 I will also say that the R211s being 75 feet long is still being evaluated, so things can change and they could end up being 60 foot cars. Just throwing that out there as a reminder.
LTA1992 Posted July 23, 2013 Share #98 Posted July 23, 2013 Yeah, but I think the Cons would outweigh the Pros, so I doubt it'll happen.
Eric B Posted July 23, 2013 Share #99 Posted July 23, 2013 Let's not forget that "open [articulated] gangway" idea, which was added. (I'm not sure that will work with 75 ft).
bobtehpanda Posted July 23, 2013 Share #100 Posted July 23, 2013 Perhaps we'll see five-door 75-footers, to fix the longer loading/unloading times of the 75ft cars?
