R44s. There were no NYCT cars until the R44s. There was a proposal to bring BMT Standards and D-types to Staten Island, but never went through.

My bad spell check error. So why did the SIRT even close its lines in the first place, then people would stop complaining about how they get no service.

Simply put, SIRT wanted to close everything down due to the company not performing well and bus routes performing better than the lines themselves.

The Staten Island Railway wasn't under the MTA umbrella until 1971. Before then, the line was privately owned.

There actually is an R43. Subway cars aren't the only NYCT equipment to get the RXxX deal.

I knew about the R43, but in this case, we are referring to the first NYCT car to appear on the SIR.
