RollOver Posted December 30, 2012 Share #55 Posted December 30, 2012 Anyway, now that the South Ferry, Rockaway-Manhattan and RPS are the only ones left for full restoration, good luck to the on that. Too bad the R46's had to take over the though, its just another version of the RPS...

Too bad the R46's had to take over the though, its just another version of the RPS... Except on the other end. And there is that one set that says B90-HOLLAND, or BEACH 90 ST v.s. SHUTTLE. Too bad the R46's had to take over the though, its just another version of the RPS... What do you mean too bad? Far Rock would've been served by R46s, even now they have only 4 car trains, which is far less than the typical 8 car trains there as well as Rock Park past 90th still closed. C is better off being all R32s again without that R42 running on it because it stopped at the 10 car marker.
RollOver Posted December 30, 2012 Share #59 Posted December 30, 2012 Just saying that the older R32s actually brought some refreshing variety to the Rockaway area besides the summer/fall seasons.
Guest Lance Posted December 31, 2012 Share #60 Posted December 31, 2012 What variety? The H was all 32s before and all 46s now.
RollOver Posted December 31, 2012 Share #61 Posted December 31, 2012 I mean that its like the Rockaway Park Shuttle. The Rockaways have been 100% R46s year round since late September 2010 (aside from the R32/46 swap).

pr1nyc1 Posted January 4, 2013 Share #64 Posted January 4, 2013 How did the H shuttle get to be all R46's? And what happened to the R32's?

Far Rock Depot Posted January 5, 2013 Share #66 Posted January 5, 2013 I have two questions 1)any word on Rock Park's restoration and 2) (rockaway transit related) any work on my name sake's status?
ttcsubwayfan Posted January 7, 2013 Share #67 Posted January 7, 2013 What variety? The H was all 32s before and all 46s now. I believe he was talking about the fact that the Rockaways is generally considered the Land of Lemons, aka the R44/46 cars, so the 32s make a nice change. Grand Concourse Posted January 7, 2013 Share #68 Posted January 7, 2013 R46s since the original trucks fiasco have been pretty reliable for the most part. I wouldn't really call them lemons.

TwoTimer Posted January 7, 2013 Share #70 Posted January 7, 2013 The R32 needs a conductor to operate the doors (not OPTO compatible), the R46 were shipped out there so OPTO service can resume and money saved in the long run. The R32 was only a stop gap measure to get some type of service out there.
eaw3c1 Posted January 7, 2013 Share #71 Posted January 7, 2013 From what I hear in regards to Rock Park, they are waiting for the Tower to have power restored, then they will probably get service up and going.

Fair enough, but my original point still stands - the Rockaways are generally regarded as the land of 44/46 cars.
Grand Concourse Posted January 7, 2013 Share #73 Posted January 7, 2013 For the most part, yeah. I do enjoy watching the ride down thru the bay via the rfw whenever the R32s were on the . Far Rock Depot Posted January 7, 2013 Share #75 Posted January 7, 2013 True. But not too long ago we had 32s 38s and 44s. Then we also had the r40 slants at retirement.
