trainspot12 Posted December 22, 2012 #1 Posted December 22, 2012 From ABC New York (WABC) The wheel assembly of the last car of a southbound A train derailed in the area of West 81st Street in Manhattan. The incident was reported just after 9 a.m. on Saturday. There were no known injuries. Passengers in the train are being removed to a train that is being directed to the derailment scene. Southbound A and D trains are running on the local tracks due to the derailment. Charles Seaton, Spokesperson for the Transit Authority says that it is unknown how soon before full service will be restored. The authority will also be conducting an investigation of the cause of the derailment prior to the restoration of service.
alejr88 Posted December 22, 2012 #3 Posted December 22, 2012 This derailment happened before, same station but on a train. I thought 81 St had timers.
jgood6195 Posted December 22, 2012 #4 Posted December 22, 2012 What cars were involved? R46s or R32s?
ttcsubwayfan Posted December 22, 2012 #5 Posted December 22, 2012 What cars were involved? R46s or R32s? There are no R32s on the . Those are summer-exclusive.
RollOver Posted December 22, 2012 #7 Posted December 22, 2012 They're still investigating. Wait until more news is posted.
Threxx Posted December 22, 2012 #8 Posted December 22, 2012 This derailment happened before, same station but on a train. I thought 81 St had timers. The timers clear at 30 MPH, the derailment still could have happened.

This is why i dont like those f**king R46's and the f**king train. im sorry guys i had to let out my anger
Tim92 Posted December 22, 2012 #10 Posted December 22, 2012 There is also this: Service Change Posted: 12/22/2012 11:50AM Due to a rail condition at the 81 Street-Museum of Natural History Station, downtown and trains are running local from the 125 Street Station to the 59 Street-Columbus Circle Station in both directions. So the derailment is not minor.
ttcsubwayfan Posted December 22, 2012 #11 Posted December 22, 2012 This is why i dont like those f**king R46's and the f**king train. im sorry guys i had to let out my anger Really? You're swearing off an entire line and fleet because of a derailment? If we go by that logic, then shouldn't you hate virtually all cars and lines?

TwoTimer Posted December 22, 2012 #14 Posted December 22, 2012 Oh this just in, it was a broken rail travelled over at a high rate of speed which made wheel come off, it wasnt the fault of the equipment
Brighton Express Posted December 22, 2012 #15 Posted December 22, 2012 Looks like my boys are getting ready for retirement. Glad to see no one was hurt though.
Gong Gahou Posted December 22, 2012 #16 Posted December 22, 2012 Looks like my boys are getting ready for retirement. Glad to see no one was hurt though. Hey, the reason for the derailment was because of a broken rail, so you shouldn't be saying that...yet. And yes, glad to hear that no one got hurt.
lupojohn Posted December 22, 2012 #17 Posted December 22, 2012 I thought there was no C service on weekends.
RFC Posted December 22, 2012 #18 Posted December 22, 2012 "The car that put Pullman Standard out of business" The R-46 on the Derailed today hmmm... I wonder if the R46 had anything to do with it and not just the rails itself. Not saying I hate the R46 or any other train I'm just wondering if the R46's also played a role in this. I am also glad no one got hurt.

Tim92 Posted December 22, 2012 #22 Posted December 22, 2012 Just went past it, wheel rode up.over the rail, it didnt physically separate from the truck. oh ok
QM1to6Ave Posted December 22, 2012 #23 Posted December 22, 2012 What exactly is a broken rail? Did the metal track crack in half?
BM5 via Woodhaven Posted December 23, 2012 #24 Posted December 23, 2012 What exactly is a broken rail? Did the metal track crack in half? From my understanding it can be that, as well as cracking in other forms
Quill Depot Posted December 23, 2012 #25 Posted December 23, 2012 wow the damn wheel came off. oh ok I've heard of capitals and punctuation. Have you? You are just like Depotofrelax and Chargerdodge09. Something's going on here... Is this a problem with maintenance? This is not a coincidence.
