Random question about station's rehabilitations

Back when they rehab'ed all the stations on the WPR Line/Jerome/etc, how come they didn't install the widescreens (instead they used gates) but with the current wall designs of the stations at the ends of each platforms similar to before they rehab'ed it was just a blank beige screen to match the whole station? They seemed to do that to Elder Avenue on the 6. To me it looks better.

Look at the link and you'll get what i mean lol

B/C the designs slightly change over the years. look at the lighting fixtures for instance hmm like at 207 Street (A) and the ones at this station they are different.
