Amtrak7 Posted February 4, 2013 #1 Posted February 4, 2013 (aka 77 St ) http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2013/02/03/77th-street-no-6-line-subway-station-to-be-renamed-for-mayor-koch/ U.S. Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-New York) will be on hand Monday to announce that the 77th Street No. 6 line station, at 77th Street and Lexington Avenue, will be known as the Mayor Ed Koch Subway Station.
Grand Concourse Posted February 4, 2013 #3 Posted February 4, 2013 Although, it'd be a nice way of rubbing it in bloombergs face to see it every day going to city hall.
QM1to6Ave Posted February 4, 2013 #4 Posted February 4, 2013 That's very nice. He would love having a bridge and a subway station.
Via Garibaldi 8 Posted February 4, 2013 #5 Posted February 4, 2013 A little overboard.... The bridge was good enough...
mark1447 Posted February 4, 2013 #6 Posted February 4, 2013 At least its better then SEPTA's Broad Street Line "AT&T Station" name (formally Pattison)... But I do agree, thats a bit too much... Can they even rename a station without MTA approval? I'm reading nothing on that.
Metro CSW Posted February 4, 2013 #7 Posted February 4, 2013 Imagine how it sounds when you say only the last name with subway station at the end. Weird......
R10 2952 Posted February 4, 2013 #9 Posted February 4, 2013 Another pointless, insubstantial initiative by absolutely useless local politicians. What's next, the Eduard Khil Memorial Terminal?
Kamen Rider Posted February 4, 2013 #12 Posted February 4, 2013 Least it's better than letting that crazy lady rename Hoyt after micheal Jackson.
ttcsubwayfan Posted February 4, 2013 #13 Posted February 4, 2013 IMO, if they renamed the street after him then it would be acceptable, for obvious reasons, but otherwise I don't really think it would work.
Mr Railfan Posted February 4, 2013 #15 Posted February 4, 2013 Wonder if they will change the announcement. "This is 77 Street - Ed Koch Station." Sounds too wordy.
lilbluefoxie Posted February 4, 2013 #16 Posted February 4, 2013 Enough with teh stupid renaming of everything, removing the street or neighborhood names from the stations is just going to make things very confusing for everyone.
Quill Depot Posted February 4, 2013 #17 Posted February 4, 2013 Another way of making people confused. Wait, there is an Ed Koch bridge? Which one?
ttcsubwayfan Posted February 4, 2013 #18 Posted February 4, 2013 Another way of making people confused. Wait, there is an Ed Koch bridge? Which one? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queensboro_Bridge
Far Rock Depot Posted February 4, 2013 #19 Posted February 4, 2013 Why is it ok to name an airport, street, bridge, tunnel, etc, after someone but not a subway station. First of all, This was a man who helped change NYC in a good, way. Second, this is a city known for its subways. I call it an honor. Didnt i see posts here crediting him for winning the war on subway graffiti. Wouldnt this be fitting? For the record, hes not the first to have multiple things named after them. But i do believe he's the first to have a subway station named after him.
Kamen Rider Posted February 4, 2013 #20 Posted February 4, 2013 My point is he already has an whole bridge
Subwayfan12 Posted February 4, 2013 #21 Posted February 4, 2013 I hope they keep the 77th Street in it. 77th Street-Ed Koch Terminal
Guest MTA Bus Posted February 4, 2013 #22 Posted February 4, 2013 I'm not saying Ed Koch was a bad guy, but why are they naming a station after him when he already has the 59th St Bridge ?
QM1to6Ave Posted February 4, 2013 #23 Posted February 4, 2013 They will proly just put up a plaque or something, not change the announcement.
User Posted February 4, 2013 #24 Posted February 4, 2013 Great, a bridge and a subway station for Ed Koch. Lets see what Giuliani and Bloomberg get when they move on...
pjbr40 Posted February 4, 2013 #25 Posted February 4, 2013 they should just choose one. a subway stop or a bridge for his name is enough for memory.
