Joe 781 Posted August 1, 2008 Share #1 Posted August 1, 2008 when you stop at a station where not all the cars platform, how does the train know to only open X amount of doors? does the conductor have to tell it to only open say the first five cars, or is there some sort of sensor that figures all this out? SubwayGuy 2,322 Posted August 1, 2008 Share #2 Posted August 1, 2008 There are only two stations where not all the cars platform - South Ferry and 145/Lenox . Trains are wired so The C/R opens half the train at a time - the part behind him is one solid "unit" the part in front same. The two Short stations are both five IRT cars length so running a 10 car train he just opens the front five.

PATCOman 196 Posted August 3, 2008 Share #6 Posted August 3, 2008 Most of the time. One time I saw a c/r attempt to close the rear first, but there were still people going in/ out, so the c/r closed the front before the rear.
