Does anyone still watch NBC-TV? Troubled network mulling big changes including exits of Leno & Lauer

Yes, dude! Beavis and Buthead! That was the jam right there. The first two seasons with Grey's Anantomy with Sandra Oh and Isaiah Washington. I was hooked with the romance they were having in the first two seasons. Loved NYPD Blue. And most definitely the Simpsons. And oh, lets not forget Married with Children. Oh man that show was hilarious!

Yup. How down the crap has tv gone in 20 years. You had those classics plus "home improvement" "Beavis and Butthead" a new show then called "Seinfeld" (considered by many the best sitcom in tv history)and "ER". some other favorites such as "Walker: Texas Rangers" "NYPD:Blue" Hey we also still had "Family Matters" "Full House" "Coach" the early "Simpsons" and more. Yes the early '90's had so much better shows than now.

Even shows I was not into that were hits such as the oringal "Beverly hills 90210" and "Friends" I would watch now in a heartbeat over today's mostly crappy shows. NBC was in the mix with many of those really good shows.

Werd. Can't add to that.

I forgot to mention this, Sandra Oh was staring in a play in the city called Satelites in 2006: It was about a Korean American woman in love with amn Afro American man (played by actor Kevin Carroll) who was making it in the IT field with a new baby son, struggling to make ends meet in Brooklyn Heights. The play was @ the Public Theatre in the village. I got her autograph. To me this sleeper hit personally motivated me as a red-blooded ABC. Love is colorblind.

Just saying this as a side point as I got this certain nostalgic vibe right now. We don't have entertainment that carries a message anymore nowadays. Ditto on the music industry.

WWOR? wow, I haven't heard channel 9 actually be referred to that by anyone since the... 80's.

LOL.  I don't know why but I can remember that sickening kiddie show called Romper Room on channel 9 before going to the terrible world of kindergarden. Remember that crap? I had nightmares over that show, had to climb into bed with mommy just to console myself over that show lol, when I was a 4 year old booger. Oh man I'm out of breath loling. I'm gonna sleep omg.

I can remember when WNBC was the station to watch but everything goes in cycles so don't count them out just yet. I can go way back to the Chet Huntley/David Brinkley news days when NBC ruled the roost. Bonanza, the first full color network. I saw Martin Luther King's" I have a dream" speech on WNBC and Jack Ruby shoot Lee Harvey Oswald on the network. Moon Landing? NBC. Cosby, Golden Girls, Saturday Night Live, NBC. Friends, Seinfeld. The Tonight Show with Jack Parr and then Johnny Carson? NBC. Overnight news was there, too with "NBC Overnight with Linda Ellerbe and Lloyd Dobyns. Tom Snyder. Because I worked the pm tour while at Transit I only saw Law and Order on holidays or vacations. Lastly, but first in the hearts of children of all ages, the commercial known as 'The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade '. They may have fallen on hard times but they'll be back. The problem the networks face is the proliferation of cable channels and the DVR. I don't think we'll ever see a dominant network like NBC or CBS used to be. I used to watch WOR- 9 when I was a kid. They had a program that came on every night called the " Million Dollar Movie". Same movie 5 nights in a row. I think I saw the original "King Kong" at least 100 times on that channel. Before cable TV took over I saw the Knicks, Nets, Islanders, and Rangers for free on channel 9. When RKO-General sold the station and Murdoch bought it I stopped watching it. The free sports were long gone by then and so was I. After the change the call sign was WOR,( Secaucus, NJ), hence the focus on North Jersey. I believe the FCC forced Fox to run channels 5 and 9 as separate entities for the most part although there was obvious overlap with on air staff. I find myself watching sports, news, and the Military, Discovery, and History channels on cable these days. The last time I knowingly turned on a local channel in NY was during the snow storm last month.

I still watch NBC, even with the departure of 30 Rock. SNL, The Voice, Revolution are a few of the shows on NBC that I watch.

Lol, I don't understand your fascination with her (huff). You are mad late on Len Berman, but at least he does a special on Fox 5 maybe once a week or month (very unclassy move from NBC, but at least they have had Beck on long enough so the firing of Berman wasn't a total hit). Wolf's firing, I won't forgive CBS for and the guy that replaced him is a news anchor, more wtf?

Russ is also on Fox 5, seems they save on paying 1 guy to do the sports on weekdays. Harry Martin was on Fox, but moved to Wor. Brenda Blackmon is still there iirc.

well im not fascinated with Janice huff im just asking who's still on the tv news since i left nyc so i figured i'd ask .  and i know Bill Buetel died

WWOR-TV? That as old school as when WPIX(Pre CW days)was called "11 Alive" in late '70's/early '80's lol.

And on Len Berman, B35 is correct, he was canned because he refused to take a salary cut (same reason Sue Simmons was fired last summer)

11 alive? LMAO..... wth is that.... When in the early 80's was this, b/c I don't remember that at all....

Sounds like that old orange juice called "five alive" (stuff was good too)....

As for Berman, cool... I thought it had something to do w/ money issues....

To fill the void of Oprah's show being gone. I thought Katie's show would take over that 4pm spot, but oh well. Not gonna miss the soaps they choose to drop and keep the 4pm news.

Although I knew the show was gone, I wasn't even thinking about her (when I asked that question).... Lol.

Yup B35. Here the station id clip and brief sounds of WPIX's "11 Alive" era of the late '70's/early '80's. FYI. PIX was a non network station then (until about 1996 as the WB/CW network)so in pre cable days, they would try to attract audience of the disco era then ages 15-30.

Mix of reruns and shows like "Solid Gold" ( A dance type American Bandstand music variety show famous for Solid Gold Dancers lol)"Magic Garden" and others.

I don't remember that at all... good find...

At what time in the '80's did they stop calling it 11 alive anyway?

If i remember right PIX dropped the "11 Alive" around '85-'86. You probably dont remember B35 because you were born around '80-'81 lol.

Lol. Good way of putting it. That show was spooky, it got me unnerved as a kid. Really weird show. Even the name: Romper room? Think about it.......

I remember quite a bit when I was around 4-5 years old; a lot actually.... Regardless, what's so funny about that?

Yep... What "Romper Room" connotates is just as bad as Pee Wee's "playhouse" (speaking of creepy).... Come to find out the man had child porn in his possession....

LMFAO look at what I found in the Daily News archives regarding Pee-Wee! OMG lol....

http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/gossip/paul-reubens-aka-pee-wee-herman-defends-public-masturbation-arrest-playboy-interview-article-1.206186

But before that can happen, the embattled entertainer has decided, one last time, to defend his biggest disgrace: a public masturbation charge in November of 1991, where Reubens was allegedly caught, pee-wee in hand, in an adult movie theater in Sarasota, Florida. Reubens pled no contest to avoid a trial, but always maintained his innocence.

"Had we gone to trial, we had ready an expert from the Masters and Johnson Institute who was going to testify that in 30 years of research on masturbation the institute had never found one person who masturbated with his or her nondominant hand. I'm right-handed, and the police report said I was jerking off with my left hand. That would have been the end of the case right there, proof it couldn't have been me," Reubens said in an interview with Playboy.

It's hilarious that the show was discontinued though because of this.

Here the lastest hot unconfirmed rumor. Starting in Fall 2014 Jimmy Fallon replaces Jay Leno as the Tonight Show and Leno contract is not renewed. Plus The Tonight Show will be taped in NYC at Rockfeller Center as  East Coast based Comcast tries to saves Money over producing from the expensive LA area studios. Thus this true would mark the 1st time, since the early 1970's that NBC flagship late night talk show is based in Midtown Manhattan.

Looks like Mr. Leno goal of breaking Carson record of 30 years as a TV late night host will come short.

I'm sure Leno will get a gig on another network. I'm sure Fallon's gonna avoid the mistakes with Conan and NBC, but I still doubt this show is going to do well. Also, couldn't they just use the SNL stage? I don't see why they'd need to make another one just for him.

Just a matter of time till Letterman goes too. Letterman is the one that needs to go. He's a cranky old man. And this 18-54 thing is overblown. I mean the people with the money are the older folks. If the older folks are watching, then what's wrong with that? Ratings is ratings.

In his 1st major interview/comments about the Ann Curry disaster, Matt Lauer says a lot including offering to "quit" right before her leaving last summer. Hey Matt and his Comcast/NBC bosses why wait almost a year to do so.

http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/tv-movies/matt-lauer-today-better-article-1.1284950

Simple, the moment would've lost some shock value if it was explained too soon. Not to mention, NBC wanted Lauer to save face.

Concourse you make a good point. However CBS does not have anyone right now to replace Letterman. Plus Letterman just signed I think year or two ago, an extension and will be at that 1135pm slot for at least another few years. Despite fact letterman is age 65. Hey if Regis can host his morning show until his later 70's, why not Letterman?(Not saying I am his biggest fan)

I happen to think, of the late shows, Jimmy Kimmel and David Letterman are the funnier ones.

Letterman can put a good show on most nights, but it's his guests that seem to keep the show moving most of the time. Other than that no complaints..
