KABUL, 20 February 2013 – Delta Air Lines (NYSE:DAL) has opened its first sales office in Afghanistan within the Bagram Military Base near the capital Kabul. The office provides a number of travel services for customers including military and civilian personnel based in Afghanistan such as: flight reservations to and from the United States and throughout Delta’s extensive domestic U.S. network; re-booking and ticket re-issues; and assistance with Delta SkyMiles accounts.

Delta’s new representative sales office is situated at AMK9 LSA, Warrior Side, Bagram Airfield. Staffed by a team of two, it is open seven days a week: 9.30am to 6.00pm Monday to Saturday and between 11.00am and 6.00pm on Sundays. Customers can book travel in person, call the reservations number on: +93 (0)7952 33356 or email: deltasales@amtravelgroup.com. Delta customers who require out-of-hours assistance will also have access to a dedicated hotline number.

Customers flying from Afghanistan can book travel to the United States on Delta via Dubai thanks to an interline agreement between Delta and Afghan carrier, Safi Airways. Delta operates a daily departure from Dubai to Atlanta, which connects with Safi Airways’ daily service from Kabul and offers a convenient transiting time of approximately two hours. In Atlanta passengers benefit from around 150 onward connections throughout the United States and beyond.

“We are excited to open our new office in Bagram Airfield, facilitating access to Delta’s daily flights to the United States as well as a host of other travel services,” said Jimmy Eichelgruen, Delta’s Sales Director for Africa, the Middle East and India. “By helping with all aspects of the travel experience - from reservations to Delta’s SkyMiles program – Delta is making getting to the States a great deal easier for our customers in Afghanistan.”

Delta’s nonstop flight between Dubai and Atlanta is operated using a 269 seat Boeing B777-200LR aircraft featuring flat-bed seats in BusinessElite. Delta also offers Economy Comfort - Delta’s premium economy cabin product – on its Dubai flights. Customers flying in Economy Comfort benefit from up to four additional inches of legroom for 35 full inches of seat pitch and 50 percent more recline than Delta’s standard Economy class seat. This year Delta will begin installing Wi-Fi on its international fleet enabling customers flying from Dubai to get online throughout their journey.
