CenSin Posted April 1, 2013 #1 Posted April 1, 2013 Let's hope this guy is out of office soon. This guy wants to put together facial recognition software and link up thousands (of not millions) of cameras, many of them airborne and mobile, to keep eyes on every corner of the city. realizm Posted April 1, 2013 #2 Posted April 1, 2013 I saw the article very recently and was about to post but you beat me to it. Really not cool at all with this at all, that's where I stand with this and will be more than happy to discuss with you all why!
BM5 via Woodhaven Posted April 1, 2013 #3 Posted April 1, 2013 I wonder if trying to find criminals easier is the actual reason for this, and not something else.................. BTW, I found this post by some guy in the comment section....smh...... ZORRO9247 days ago Well, it is great idea! The more cameras the better! You morons who are against are probably involved in something illegal....This city has criminals walking around and it is time to place cameras everywhere and make it difficult for them to commit to crime. I would go even one more step: attach guns to drones and allow to kill criminals on the spot.. Remember, your privacy ends when you leave your apartment, you can't expect to have privacy outside of your building. What you stupid people don't understand? I guess thats why he calls himself a "zorro" which is spanish for something not really good (the other definition is fox, but not saying that)
Via Garibaldi 8 Posted April 1, 2013 #4 Posted April 1, 2013 I don't like the whole idea of having these things peep into people's homes... That's really invasive... Hell when I'm walking home I can literally look into people's apartments or houses because they leave their blinds up for all to see!! Not me... Even if I open my balcony door, the window shades are still there. It's always best to do it that way, not necessarily because you're up to no good but because it's not good to make yourself an easy target to be prayed upon. People are always watching even when you don't realize they are and I have learned that people are incredibly NOSY. They try all sorts of tactics, like pretending they're looking elsewhere else when they're really trying to see what you're doing. What's hilarious is when you catch them dead in the act. I know one of my neighbors while very nice is incredibly nosy, which is why I speak, have some small talk and keep it moving....
realizm Posted April 1, 2013 #5 Posted April 1, 2013 What is it or who is it, that is influencing mayor Bloomberg to dare even make such an initiative that is a flagerant violation of private space!? Right to privacy? That's the scary monkey in the wrench which is what I'm brainstorming on. Going to eat dinner in a sec with kitten and muse on it......
Orion VII 4 Life Posted April 1, 2013 #6 Posted April 1, 2013 With Bloomberg, it's all about setting up a nanny/police state. You should all know that by now. The man is crazy, and Christine Quinn is gonna be a hell of a lot worse, I hope to God she doesn't win.

peacemak3r Posted April 1, 2013 #8 Posted April 1, 2013 Sooner or later Bloomberg is going to try to make NYC like this small movie:
CenSin Posted April 1, 2013 Author #9 Posted April 1, 2013 Suppose Bloomberg's vision became true, then every time you type your password into your mobile phone, or do some office work in an open space, or have sex in the "secret" areas of Central Park… you'd simply be feeding a massive database of video feeds. Anyone with access to the database and with sufficient motivation would be able to trace your steps from the moment you leave your home. I know that expectation of privacy should be lowered in public, but there is a common sense limit to how much privacy can be invaded. Video cameras on drones watching every nook and cranny would amount to placing a GPS on someone (which the courts have determined to be illegal without a warrant).

Seriously though, this is going too far. I mean, a camera on certain corners in high-crime areas of the city, fine. But on EVERY corner in this city? Really? That is just too far, and even if am outside of my house, I'd still want a bit of privacy when I'm out and about. I don't need everything I do to be recorded!
CenSin Posted April 2, 2013 Author #13 Posted April 2, 2013 April F##cking Fools! But the source article was published on March 22… You mean the Ramble? Oopsies... That's for gay sex only according to Wikipedia. I've been there and I don't think that's a good place for sex.

I've been there and I don't think that's a good place for sex. It is (or was) known as gay spot, but straight couples do get kinky there as well (It was kinda strange w/ her) ...it's relatively isolated, that's why some people consider it a good spot... (Am I pushing the PG-13 limit here? )

realizm Posted April 2, 2013 #16 Posted April 2, 2013 Suppose Bloomberg's vision became true, then every time you type your password into your mobile phone, or do some office work in an open space, or have sex in the "secret" areas of Central Park… you'd simply be feeding a massive database of video feeds. Video cameras on drones watching every nook and cranny would amount to placing a GPS on someone (which the courts have determined to be illegal without a warrant). That's true. I was reading in a tech article recently that they are advancing in mobile surveillance technology so that now authorities locate persons sending mobile transmissions within a perimeter of only four feet. Now my gripe is this: There's enough controversy as it is with suspected military drone activity already on US soil in general, keeping surveillance on US citizens, as we have been seeing in the news as of late. Now with the issues with invasion of privacy concerning this ridiculous proposal with Bloomberg in NYC, using not just more and more cameras, DRONES? Is he mad? Isn't he actually now bordering on illegal maneuvers here? Very controversial issue here that I predict (well hope) will not stand in US Supreme Court, once the class action lawsuit comes, which will happen, if he dares to even enact this mandate. Mr. Bloomberg got some nerve even trying to open his mouth and announce this in the first place. Really with this one this is the straw that broke the camel's back! Enough is enough already! You mean the Ramble? Oopsies... I don't want when I am taking a shit in my bathroom to be recorded either with drones buzzing around my windows. let alone cameras watching my every move.
