LOL... That's not Riverdale... That's Kingsbridge.... Riverdale starts where the (1) train ends. I see he was down by 231st & Broadway (Kingsbridge) and near 242nd and Broadway as well (Van Cortlandt Park)... Nice shots I must say, esp. the BxM3 shot.

Just to clarify though, Riverdale down on Broadway does not start until 242nd street where the (1) train ends.  That's where it starts at on Broadway.  Anything west of Broadway is Kingsbridge from below 242nd down to 225th street where Marble Hill starts.  Riverdale west of Broadway does not start until you reach Riverdale Avenue and 230th street and start going up to the hill.  Folks in Kingsbridge call it "Riverdale" though which is quite comical because it most certainly isn't Riverdale.  Google maps clearly defines the borders and all of Riverdale is separated geographically from Kingsbridge by hills except for where Broadway and 242nd street meet.

Thanks guys, Glad you like.

BTW Via Garibaldi 8, I wasn't exactly in Riverdale at first, but after stepping foot on Kingsbridge (I should have put that instead) I entered Riverdale, didn't I?

I passed these areas on a trip upstate and thought I take the shots beforehand because I had a lot of time to kill before meeting up with some friends.

Thanks for the correction. I'll take a note of that. Glad you like the photos. :)

Well from the photos you've put up only one appears to be even near Riverdale, and that's the BxM3 shot which is by 242nd street. The others are clearly in Kingsbridge (Bx7, Bx9) what I can see excluding the ones from Fordham Rd of course.  Don't worry... You're not the only one who confuses the area. The problem is all of the stores down on Broadway below 242nd street consider themselves to be part of "Riverdale" so you'll see Riverdale plastered everywhere.... Even that Target store by 225th puts that location as its "Riverdale" branch when that is actually Kingsbridge or better yet Marble Hill. Anytime I get fliers in my mailbox I have to chuckle at how many businesses claim that they're in Riverdale and then I see the address and I go, that's not in Riverdale.  That's in Kingsbridge.

To answer your question if you were on Broadway and went past 242nd street then you were in Riverdale, otherwise no.  The boarder is right there though so it's understandable that you'd be confused.  That area is where you may find some Riverdalians that come down the hill or the stairs to get the (1) train.

Okay, so I was close, but not quite, you're saying. BTW, I took the last two Bx9 photos in the same spot where I also caught the BxM3. I feel like there needs to be a boundary map for these neighborhoods because people tell me I'm in Riverdale already at that point, when I'm actually in Kingsbridge for instance.

I do get your point tho. Thanks a lot for clearing that up. I think I should check more of this area later on.

To make things simpler, Riverdale doesn't have a subway running through it at any point... (231st and 238th are both Kingsbridge stops), though some consider 238th to even be part of Riverdale which is understandable since the border is fairly close.  The (1) train ends where Riverdale starts there at 242nd, though you do have Riverdalians that use 242nd, 238th and 231st.  The borders are pretty well defined, it's just that the folks down there in Kingsbridge like to think of themselves as being in Riverdale when they aren't. LOL Kind of like East Harlem claiming to be part of the Upper East Side if you will...

nice shots

LOL at VG8...

some people in Dyker Heights think their in Bay Ridge...

LOL... That's funny because Dyker Heights is just as beautiful as Bay Ridge but Bay Ridge has more night life and is better known, but the boundary is sort of murky since they're both nice areas with similar housing stock in some parts, especially along 86th street. Me personally I looked at apartments in both neighborhoods (one on Shore Rd and 92nd in Bay Ridge and another place off of 13th Ave in the 70s in Dyker Heights), but would prefer Bay Ridge because it's more versatile in terms of night life for young folks while Dyker Heights is very family oriented.

However, there is a distinct difference between Kingsbridge and Riverdale, particularly from a geographical point of view.  I heard somewhere that supposedly Riverdale is like the rich uncle of Kingsbridge.

Weird that 4782 on the Bx12 didnt have via Pelham Pky, but only via fordham.

Great catches over all; good coverage on my home route :] [bx9]

Fordham & 231 St are like bus wonderland   ^_^

Good thing you noticed this, I live a block away from Target & its like not frustrating but annoying when the Bx1 says Riverdale-231, yet isnt even near the actual Riverdale.

Well the Bx1 actually terminates right at Riverdale Avenue and West 231st street, so you could consider that to be Riverdale (albeit Spuyten Duyvil (aka Southern Riverdale).  Anything east of that however is Kingsbridge.  The boundaries are tricky because of the hills but Riverdale Avenue in that section is the divider which then leads into Irwin. Up that hill is where Spuyten Duyvil continues and up the hill the other way on Riverdale Avenue is Riverdale (Central Riverdale) and that's "Upstairs Riverdale" because of the hill. Downstairs Riverdale however along Broadway doesn't start until 242nd street.
