46Dover Posted May 9, 2013 #1 Posted May 9, 2013 I saw that there was a yard with tracks and a bus yard off the D line near 9th Ave in Brooklyn if I'm not mistaken. Could it be used as a storage yard for the R trains?
trainfan22 Posted May 9, 2013 #2 Posted May 9, 2013 It was used as an storage yard for trains in the past... http://nycsubway.org/perl/show?4856 http://nycsubway.org/perl/show?32392 IDK why they don't use it anymore though.
GojiMet86 Posted May 9, 2013 #3 Posted May 9, 2013 The one next to 9th Avenue is used for maintenance of way equipment, not trains. That's where the garbage train goes.
Fresh Pond Posted May 9, 2013 #4 Posted May 9, 2013 That yard (38 Street is the name) is pretty much a Maintenance of Way yard like Goji said. The snow cars, signal dolly cars, and pump cars are based there. ...for the record, they do occasionally (not always) store a train there after the morning rush

46Dover Posted May 9, 2013 Author #6 Posted May 9, 2013 I guess I'd they used it as a full time yard, they could go back to Ditmars Blvd
mtattrain Posted May 10, 2013 #7 Posted May 10, 2013 I guess I'd they used it as a full time yard, they could go back to Ditmars Blvd No they couldn't; it would create reversing complexities and possibly delay trains.
Kamen Rider Posted May 11, 2013 #8 Posted May 11, 2013 There is no shop there, and it can't hold enough equipment. Jamaica is the logical choice...
4P3607 Posted May 11, 2013 #9 Posted May 11, 2013 There is no shop there, and it can't hold enough equipment. Jamaica is the logical choice... All this is why the NN & RR (or & , not sure which they used at the time) swapped terminals, there was no crew room at either terminal for the R (I thought there was one at Bay Ridge?)
Kamen Rider Posted May 11, 2013 #10 Posted May 11, 2013 adding a crew room is much easier comapired to trying to shoehorn in a yard. It was N and RR
Culver Posted May 12, 2013 #11 Posted May 12, 2013 I believe that yard is why there's a 20-minute gap in train service northbound at a certain point on evenings with a train going up the Culver to Broadway-Lafayette to start service while work trains pull out of the yard and onto the West End to the rest of the system.
N4 Via Merrick Rd Posted May 12, 2013 #12 Posted May 12, 2013 Don't they use it for garbage and work trains? I have also noticed they rebuilt the tanks west of 9th avenue.
