Subway yard off the West End line

I saw that there was a yard with tracks and a bus yard off the D line near 9th Ave in Brooklyn if I'm not mistaken. Could it be used as a storage yard for the R trains?

The one next to 9th Avenue is used for maintenance of way equipment, not (R) trains. That's where the garbage train goes.

That yard (38 Street is the name) is pretty much a Maintenance of Way yard like Goji said. The snow cars, signal dolly cars, and pump cars are based there.

...for the record, they do occasionally (not always) store a (R) train there after the morning rush

Didn't know that.

I guess I'd they used it as a full time (R) yard, they could go back to Ditmars Blvd

No they couldn't; it would create reversing complexities and possibly delay (D) trains.

There is no shop there, and it can't hold enough equipment. Jamaica is the logical choice...

All this is why the NN & RR (or (N) & (R) , not sure which they used at the time) swapped terminals, there was no crew room at either terminal for the R (I thought there was one at Bay Ridge?)

I believe that yard is why there's a 20-minute gap in (D) train service northbound at a certain point on evenings with a (D) train going up the Culver to Broadway-Lafayette to start service while work trains pull out of the yard and onto the West End to the rest of the system.
