B/O 4600 Hiring Process

Message added by +Young+

BUS OPERATOR #4600

List Status Update: 1/16/22 The list for this specific exam has been extended to January 6th, 2024.

Training: See the DOB New Hire FAQ topic for more information.

Next Scheduled Class: You will be scheduled with candidates of more recent Bus Operator exams (which are pinned), so check those threads for more information.

For those of you who wish to restore your name to the list, you must do so by sending an e-mail to certificationunit@dcas.nyc.gov. In your e-mail, state your full name, exam number, list number, the last four of your social security number, and a brief reason why you're restoring your name to the list. You don't have to go into full detail in the e-mail.

For those who will be reporting to Livingston Street in the future, click here for the pre-employment packet and click here or for extra pages of the CPD-B booklet (if you need them) for final processing.

Next, for those of you who are still waiting, you folks might want to check out this and this YouTube video. In addition, if you need help getting your Class B CLP (Commercial Learner's Permit), I would encourage you to check out cristcdl.com which is free!! Remember, the multiple-choice tests you need to take and pass, at minimum, are General Knowledge, Air Brakes and Passenger Endorsement.

Finally, if you need to make an appointment at the DMV to take the multiple-choice examinations for your Commercial Learner's Permit, click here.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask. We're here to help each other.

Good luck!

Seems as if 23 percent of people fail the 10 day training class. That's not too bad of a number. Basically 3 out of 4 pass, which is not terrible odds.

Not everybody can learn to operate the bus the way the MTA wants you to operate the bus in 10 days. The class that I was in half of the people failed.

How many people were in that class? Did you have your cdl before the mta training and did you wind up passing the 10 day training?

If I have never driven anything bigger than a car.....will I have problems during the 10 day training class?

Honestly, If I were you, I would take lessons in a school bus just to get a feel of a large vehicle. If you can go for the full CDL-B.

Understand however, driving a school bus is different than a transit/coach bus. The main issue (at least for me) was getting comfortable with the turns and the fact that the front axle is behind you. With a transit/coach bus you can come out a little more and when you hit the pivot point you can execute the turn. Because I drive MCI D45/4000's and Van Hools almost exclusively, driving the LF's and RTS buses will be something new for me.

In your opinion, what is the difference, if there is any, between a rear engine school bus and a transit/coach bus?

hi has anyone in here took there road test in syosset long island if so how is it over there

i did lol. there was four of us with our teacher taking the road test that day but we got lucky with the examiner an cool old guy. 3 of us passed and only 1 who failed has very cocky attitude. like the previous post says the examiner knows passing or failing in the first few mins.  our instructor already knows most of us will pass just by who the examiner is.

Good luck man. Remember all steps of the air brake test and remember anytime u are going to back up, secure the bus ( neutral, parking brake and hazard lights on) shut the bus off, take the key out and go outside the bus and inspect behind the bus. Do that every time, even if your doing the parallel and the straight back in the same exact location.
