B/O 4600 Hiring Process

Message added by +Young+

BUS OPERATOR #4600

List Status Update: 1/16/22 The list for this specific exam has been extended to January 6th, 2024.

Training: See the DOB New Hire FAQ topic for more information.

Next Scheduled Class: You will be scheduled with candidates of more recent Bus Operator exams (which are pinned), so check those threads for more information.

For those of you who wish to restore your name to the list, you must do so by sending an e-mail to certificationunit@dcas.nyc.gov. In your e-mail, state your full name, exam number, list number, the last four of your social security number, and a brief reason why you're restoring your name to the list. You don't have to go into full detail in the e-mail.

For those who will be reporting to Livingston Street in the future, click here for the pre-employment packet and click here or for extra pages of the CPD-B booklet (if you need them) for final processing.

Next, for those of you who are still waiting, you folks might want to check out this and this YouTube video. In addition, if you need help getting your Class B CLP (Commercial Learner's Permit), I would encourage you to check out cristcdl.com which is free!! Remember, the multiple-choice tests you need to take and pass, at minimum, are General Knowledge, Air Brakes and Passenger Endorsement.

Finally, if you need to make an appointment at the DMV to take the multiple-choice examinations for your Commercial Learner's Permit, click here.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask. We're here to help each other.

Good luck!

I have to go into my appointent, it says no restrictions on your license. I've had my CDL but only used it in the state of NY so I have A3 E and K restrictions. As per the DMV website, "The two restrictions together will verify to law enforcement and USDOT representatives that you are not required to have a USDOT Medical Examiner's Certificate and that your operation is limited to New York State only." I don't want to go there and be denied and miss the opportunity because of this.

If its an issue, will I be disqualified or will they just send me to get it done correctly if anyone can shed some light on this I would greatly appreciate it.

Also, maybe just my instance but I got the letter Friday evening for a Tuesday Morning Appointment. Make sure you have all your documents nearby and up to date on your prior address and job history because I'm still struggling to remember.

Don't worry about A3 or E. They may have something to say about the K restriction.

Likely scenario: When you show them your license, they'll tell you to go to DMV and remove it and either come back later in the day or the next day or two. My suggestion - get to 180 Livingston early.

FYI, There is a TA class on Monday October 31, 2016.

What is done on the road test after you qualify? I assume it's the air break and, pre-trip but what else?

From my understanding from 2014: It's a road test, the only exception is that you're using a TA bus. They will start with an air brake, followed by the pre-trip, then checking your parking and service brakes, moving into traffic, driving on local streets and the highway, and parallel parking somewhere.

They're not going to say anything about the K restriction. It goes with the A3 restriction, which is fine to get hired. It will only be a problem if he is working out of Staten Island as he would need a medical card to operate the S89.

I'm heading to 180 Livingston Street this Friday the 21st for pre employment. Anyone think I'll get a training class this year or am I looking at early next year?

If you're placed on medical hold, and depending on the amount of time it takes you to get it resolved: Probably next year.

If you're not placed on medical hold, then definitely this year.

Thank you!

If you don't mind me asking you what is your list# range

My list number is in the 1260's.

No problem. If you're placed on medical hold, and you're able to take care of it with your Primary Care Physician, then there's a chance you could get into a class before the end of this year. However, if you have to go to a specialist, have some tests done, etc, then it'll take longer, respectively.

Being placed on medical hold is not a big deal. The sooner your dr writes them a letter stating the condition you are in is safe to operate the bus, the quicker you will be removed from the hold. The MTA DR will review the letter, make copies of it to file it into your folder. Keep in mind, its their decision to determined whether or not the condition you have is safe to operate the bus.

Starting next year, they will start to check whether or not you have sleep apnea, which will be even more tougher to clear.

Hearing Test , EKG, Blood pressure, vision test, urine test for diabetes,

When the phyician calls you in, he/she will review all the test that was done, review your medical history questionair. He/she will start to check you out by physically cross examine you. Sometimes the MTA DR have you remove your shirt, pants or shoes to make sure nothing is hiding such as scars or unreported injuries.... Bottom line is if you have any medical condition, just cover your a** by having dr notes stated its safe to operate a bus.

Ive been reading that people in the 1200's are getting letters, my list number is 10xx, I haven't received anything...but I did recieve letter from mabstoa 4105...any info???

If I was you, I would call them on Monday @ 347-643-8229, 8230, 8231 or 8232 to inquire about what happened. With the amount of letters they mail out and the amount of people they process, things happen, and I wouldn't take it seriously.

Was there today to try to finalize pre employment list #9xx, spoke to woman that processed me, she told me that there only up to 845 which is last number hired, I have to wait for my NYS license to be mailed from Albany because i transferred from Pennsylvania and got my CDL permit same day, but now I dont have any state issued picture ID, so i am on hold for 2 weeks or more to take the drug test.
