Message added by +Young+

BUS OPERATOR #4600

List Status Update: 1/16/22 The list for this specific exam has been extended to January 6th, 2024.

Training: See the DOB New Hire FAQ topic for more information.

Next Scheduled Class: You will be scheduled with candidates of more recent Bus Operator exams (which are pinned), so check those threads for more information.

For those of you who wish to restore your name to the list, you must do so by sending an e-mail to certificationunit@dcas.nyc.gov. In your e-mail, state your full name, exam number, list number, the last four of your social security number, and a brief reason why you're restoring your name to the list. You don't have to go into full detail in the e-mail.

For those who will be reporting to Livingston Street in the future, click here for the pre-employment packet and click here or for extra pages of the CPD-B booklet (if you need them) for final processing.

Next, for those of you who are still waiting, you folks might want to check out this and this YouTube video. In addition, if you need help getting your Class B CLP (Commercial Learner's Permit), I would encourage you to check out cristcdl.com which is free!! Remember, the multiple-choice tests you need to take and pass, at minimum, are General Knowledge, Air Brakes and Passenger Endorsement.

Finally, if you need to make an appointment at the DMV to take the multiple-choice examinations for your Commercial Learner's Permit, click here.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask. We're here to help each other.

Good luck!

that's great, now you have to pass the DMV road test but, congratulations

Yes. I've heard I get 2 chances since I did it in 9 days? The recent days i should be able to do it.

When my Supt. told me to secure the bus and walked out the bus, made a call and turned to me and said, "welcome to the family, you've qualified", I broke down with joy and happiness , the cloud over me has broken and my life can come full swing. Anyone can pm me details of the test or is it staight foward? Pre trip, ALSAPS, THEN drive? Calling over passes, hazards etc

I can only imagine. I've been sitting here trying to figure out if I should take the chance with just my permit. I recieved another letter to come in for pre-employment on Nov 30. Crazy thing is my permit expires Dec 2. If you can pass the road test I might give it a try. I don't want to spend my savings on a driving school lol.

I've had a few classmates tell me line training is 6 weeks in Staten Island and 4 weeks in the other boroughs. Can anyone confirm this?

That is correct. States island is longer due to the fact they make you line train in all their depots. In the other boroughs you only line train in the one depot you pick or get assigned to.

Thanks for the frequent updates on your progress. I'm sure it has been very informative to most of the readers. Please keep doing so. What do you have to do now until the DMV road test?..When exactly they tell you, you're hired? Once you pass the DMV, what happens next?

Congrats to all that are coming on board!.

Yesterday my class was the last class to do the system pick, And I'm glad that I was able to pick out to the depot I wanted to go to since day one. Looks like the following 3 or 4 classes behind me will be sent to wherever locations that are open and needed for drivers.

CDL Permits

Just a little advise to everyone who hasn't been called yet for drug/medical process and you currently have a permit. Its best and less stressful to just get the CDL license on your own. MTA does not teach you to pass the dmv road test, MTA only teaches you how to operate the bus safely and develop the skills that you will need to maneuver the bus safely. You are already stress enough going through the 7 day training trying to see if you will make it first round or get cut at the final rounds to be qualified. Some Supt Instructors has no patience and will not baby step driver ed 101 on how to drive the bus. Some expects you already know how to drive, but willing to break you in the transit driving way. Whether you have experience or no experience, Only the best of the best will be qualified,

After you qualified on either Day 7, 9 or 10. You will be trained on other buses just so they can certified you that you learned that bus and can operate it if the depot you will be assigned or pick has it. They will schedule your DMV road test, and like it has been mention a few times on this thread. If you qualified on day 7, and 9 you will get two chances to pass the dmv road test. If you Qualified on day 10, you get only one chance to pass. If you don't pass the road test, you will have to resign the position and that will be the end of it.  If you pass the road test, you will start line training at the depot you will be assigned or pick to.

If you can pick into queens go for it it's it's way better then everywhere else u can work any time of day u want and you'll get weekends off in 5 years. In OA depots ur your working nights for minimum 10 years and weekends off 20 years.

Plus in queens u work stress free everyone saids good morning hi bye thanks. Everywhere else no one pays and treat u like sh*t

That's not true. We have a pick every 3-4 months so you have a chance of getting something that works for you, maybe not right away but sooner rather than later. Then every year you have the general pick, which ended on Tuesday, and there were depots with weekends off. If anything Queens is more difficult because you have so many senior drivers who won't let go they're schedule until they retire. As far as appreciative passengers they are in every borough, I sometimes get tired of hearing "Thank you" or "have a good day" and I'm in the Bronx. If people pay or not it's not an operators concern, you get paid to drive the bus safely, not collect fares (Zerega's exact words) they have undercovers who handle fare beaters. And lastly people will treat you based on your attitude so if your attitude is sh*t you will be treated as such.Queens is a more decent borough.

Qualified day 9. Thanks for everyone's help.

You're welcome. Any feedback on the handouts? Just curious...

From what I remember in Maspeth in both the tractor trailer & the bus (yes, both): You'll start inside the vehicle with the DMV examiner going over your documents while you do the air brake test. The first step, the air leakage rate test, takes a minute, and while this is happening, the DMV examiner enters your information into his/her handheld computer. After the air-compressor cut-off test, you'll examine the vehicle, both inside & outside. Once that's done, then it's the parking brake & service brake test, then off you go.

I'm not 100% sure on the exact route they take in the Bronx, but yes, you do have to call out all overpasses, hazards, idiots, etc. If you're unsure of anything, just call it out and then you can say something to the nature of "Correction to a previous Hazard: Police activity on side of the street (compared to construction)" or something to that nature. Be prepared to drive on the local streets and highway, be prepared to park the bus wherever there is space available. Like they say, "expect the unexpected."

Day 10 course? ???? Any help.....????

It'll be in the Bronx, both local streets and highway driving, no pre-trip, no backing up, no parking. Straight forward. Very simple.

My advice: Just stay calm and forget about the second Superintendent.

Yea when your new zeregra tells you not to worry about the fare when you pass probation your going to take a class called 'top class' then they'll tell you the real stuff that's when they tell you if you have the same people not paying the fare you let you depot boss know

Is there any advantages of having a class A license once employed by MTA?

Asking because my job is offering free CDL classes for class A & B. So I'm considering taking this offer since it's free.

I already have my class B with all needed endorsements

Honestly, to my knowledge, if you're on the list for both Track Worker (3600) and Bus Operator (4600), then you might have an advantage. Here's why:

Obviously, you need a Class B to drive the bus. However, once you get into track & have seniority, then one of the specialist jobs you can pick is a truck driving job, which can range from the single-unit trucks to the tractor trailers. Therefore, if you're able to get it, I would take advantage of it...

FYI

List # middle of 1800s

11/9 drug test

12/1 medical

just realized that the subject line in HR email says medical ONLY. The 21 page booklet is not mentioned in the list of docs i should bring with me and no words about final processing. What does it mean? If i pass medical then i have to come back for the final procedures? is there no new class date determined?

They dont do medical and final processing in the same day anymore. Now once you pass your medical you have to wait for them to contact you again to come back for final processing. At that point they will tell you to bring that 21 pg packet.

My process was 11/4 pre employment with drug testing, 11/9 medical with 21 page book and when passed medical was on to processing same day. Training class 11/14
