Message added by +Young+

BUS OPERATOR #4600

List Status Update: 1/16/22 The list for this specific exam has been extended to January 6th, 2024.

Training: See the DOB New Hire FAQ topic for more information.

Next Scheduled Class: You will be scheduled with candidates of more recent Bus Operator exams (which are pinned), so check those threads for more information.

For those of you who wish to restore your name to the list, you must do so by sending an e-mail to certificationunit@dcas.nyc.gov. In your e-mail, state your full name, exam number, list number, the last four of your social security number, and a brief reason why you're restoring your name to the list. You don't have to go into full detail in the e-mail.

For those who will be reporting to Livingston Street in the future, click here for the pre-employment packet and click here or for extra pages of the CPD-B booklet (if you need them) for final processing.

Next, for those of you who are still waiting, you folks might want to check out this and this YouTube video. In addition, if you need help getting your Class B CLP (Commercial Learner's Permit), I would encourage you to check out cristcdl.com which is free!! Remember, the multiple-choice tests you need to take and pass, at minimum, are General Knowledge, Air Brakes and Passenger Endorsement.

Finally, if you need to make an appointment at the DMV to take the multiple-choice examinations for your Commercial Learner's Permit, click here.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask. We're here to help each other.

Good luck!

yeah there's a difference. I know for a fact that the wheels are behind you on the. Is so you have to turn differently than on a school bus. But, yeah I'm trying to get my license before going in. I've already been called and turned it down. I want less hurdles when I start training.

That's great if you can go in and all you have to do is qualify. IT Will save you tons of headaches and go straight into line training while waiting for your classmates to finish

I wouldn't want to waste my opportunity. Plus people here on the forum have given a lot of good advice.

Aside from having to pay upfront for the cost of aquiring the lic with school fee etc, we'll worth it. My case all I paid was for the roadtest fees and license fee

of course. I mean I didn't want to spend the money but, I figured once I get the job I would get that money back because I would be making more than what I am now.

Offhand, has anyone checked out 1st Choice Driving School in Brooklyn? The reason why I'm asking is because not only do they have rear engine buses (yes, you read that correctly), but their CDL instructors are also NYC Transit Bus Operators as well. Although I drive the Queens College Shuttle Bus, I still might go to them for 1 or 2 lessons just as a refresher, in order to avoid what happened back in February of 2014.

That also includes the "handouts" as well, which includes the pre-trip, correct? Just want to be on the safe side...

I didn't think I would need a lot of lessons. My first day wasn't bad driving. It's all about being comfortable behind the wheel.

Not only that, but knowing your stuff as well, such as pre-trip (both interior & exterior), calling out hazards, watching for your tail swing when making turns, etc.

Of course. By my 4th lesson I should be good. I I have found a ton of videos for the pre-trip inspection that is perfect.

I had him for day 1-7 hes a really good and fair guy dont worry you got this. Day 8 and 9 route is way easier.

Day 8 and 9 just drive! Call out everything and keep your 4 ft distance and watch your pivot point. I had over complicated the whole driving experience. Do what they tell you and RELAX!. He is fair and will tell you how it is. Listen to him he will help you. I had him for driving time before my roadtest. His parallel parking is on point.

Be slow on your turns 2-3 mph, "walking it in" don't give it gas, let the retarder do the work. A lot of people don't know how the retarder works and it helps you slow down with little brake. Just feather the service brakes and you will be amazed by how you adapt to the system.

Not only that, but there is no pre-trip, no parallel parking, no straight backing, etc. Just straight driving and bus stops, that's all...

Approximately how long is the road test?

Approximately how long is the road test?

About 90 minutes (depending on traffic). One of the things you can do, if you don't go first, is watch your classmates tackle the road course first. From there, you can pick up an idea of what to expect, what they did correctly vs. incorrectly, etc.

Good luck!!
