B/O 4600 Hiring Process

Message added by +Young+

BUS OPERATOR #4600

List Status Update: 1/16/22 The list for this specific exam has been extended to January 6th, 2024.

Training: See the DOB New Hire FAQ topic for more information.

Next Scheduled Class: You will be scheduled with candidates of more recent Bus Operator exams (which are pinned), so check those threads for more information.

For those of you who wish to restore your name to the list, you must do so by sending an e-mail to certificationunit@dcas.nyc.gov. In your e-mail, state your full name, exam number, list number, the last four of your social security number, and a brief reason why you're restoring your name to the list. You don't have to go into full detail in the e-mail.

For those who will be reporting to Livingston Street in the future, click here for the pre-employment packet and click here or for extra pages of the CPD-B booklet (if you need them) for final processing.

Next, for those of you who are still waiting, you folks might want to check out this and this YouTube video. In addition, if you need help getting your Class B CLP (Commercial Learner's Permit), I would encourage you to check out cristcdl.com which is free!! Remember, the multiple-choice tests you need to take and pass, at minimum, are General Knowledge, Air Brakes and Passenger Endorsement.

Finally, if you need to make an appointment at the DMV to take the multiple-choice examinations for your Commercial Learner's Permit, click here.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask. We're here to help each other.

Good luck!

if this list turns out to be very long , the MTA may extend it for longer than 4 years like they've done in the past . keep in mind alot of people don't make the TEAM for WHATEVER reason drugs, alcohol , criminal history , driving record , training . i can go on and on let's all stay positive and healthy . GOOD LUCK TO ALL

I agree I've been there myself. Only time will tell

IIRC, you get sorted by social, for those who get the same score.

For those who might be interested, SS#'s are somewhat random, so age does not play a role (I thought it did but I'm wrong).

Got this info off of a site:

What do the numbers mean?

SSNs are not assigned consecutively; the first was not the lowest number, and the most recent is not the highest. They are assigned regionally and in batches.

The nine-digit SSN, which has been issued in more than 400 million different sequences, is divided into three parts: area numbers, group numbers and serial numbers.

  • Area numbers - The first three numbers originally represented the state in which a person first applied for a Social Security card. Numbers started in the northeast and moved westward. This meant that people on the east coast had the lowest numbers and those on the west coast had the highest. Since 1972, the SSA has assigned numbers and issued cards based on the ZIP code in the mailing address provided on the original application form. Since the applicant's mailing address doesn't have to be the same as his residence, his area number doesn't necessarily represent the state in which he resides. For many of us who received our SSNs as infants, the area number indicates the state we were born in. You can find out which area numbers go with each state at SSA.gov: Social Security Number Allocations.
  • Group numbers - These two middle digits, which range from 01 through 99, are simply used to break all the SSNs with the same area number into smaller blocks, which makes administration easier. (The SSA says that, for administrative reasons, group numbers issued first consist of the odd numbers from 01 through 09, and then even numbers from 10 through 98, within each area number assigned to a state. After all the numbers in group 98 of a specific area have been issued, the even groups 02 through 08 are used, followed by odd groups 11 through 99.)
  • Serial numbers - Within each group designation, serial numbers -- the last four digits in an SSN -- run consecutively from 0001 through 9999.

Although SSNs are issued in some order, there is no simple way to tell a person's age based on his Social Security number.

Just took this test saturday morning, anyone knows where i could get the answer sheet for this exam?

I thought I just sent you a private message about this. Anyways, according to the "Candidate's Personal Record of Answers", the proposed answer key will be available on January 23rd, 2014 either at 180 Livingston Street (Lobby) or by going to http://www.mta.info/nyct/hr/proposed_answerkey.htm. Keep in mind that they had a very late make-up for exam 2613, which delayed NYC Transit releasing the proposed answer key for that exam. Hopefully that will not be the case here.

Does anyone else feel let down by this test? I spent sooo much time preparing, practicing headway & running time concepts.. memorizing addresses of POI's, bridges, landmarks, rules of the road.. etc. Countless hours, taking the prep class, studying the books.. and they didnt have a single question on any of that stuff.. Just situational, common sense scenarios that almost everyone could answer. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad to have found the test easy but, it seemed too easy to effectively weed out the masses that didn't prepare for it.. For all my efforts, I really expected a better test of my working knowledge of the subject matter.. I guess I'm just venting.. I understand that NYCTA feared having the 87% fail rate of the previous exam again and not having a decent pool of passing candidates to make it thru the next 4 years. I'd expect they'll be calling only those who scored 100% or very close to it, any time soon. I'm sure they'll be thousands who did..

Not really the opinion of most on here is that this test was made quite easy because over 27000 ppl failed the 1 they gave in January and they're hurting or at least soon to be hurting for operators

The way i view it, I know the test was easy and even my self studied real hard with dmv questions, point of interest and etc. But remember easy or not the entire process to get hired will be a journey. Alone some wont pass the 7-10 day class. So lets all appreciate and see whats next

Either way, it seems the (MTA) won't make anyone happy!!! Lol. I am glad it was easy. Everyone should be thankful that they have studied. The preparation is a polishing.

I for one am glad that there were no questions on landmarks. I have been away fron NYC for over 12 yrs and despite studying it would have still been a challenge for me to remember certain landmarks especially since I only visited a few times since leaving the city

I understand they need a longer list after so many people failed 2613.  At least put 6-10 CDL or points of interests questions on the test so people who actually give a damn and prepared can be higher on the list.

Exactly! I agree 100% and you said it all in a nut shell. I studied hours and hours, as did so many others. I know what's done is done but it's still annoying for the exact reason you gave.

I believe there is enough work for everyone. I mean those that cant drive just wont make it. Understand one thing folks you can study hard know all there is to know about test taking but at the end of it all. If you cant drive that bus safely defensively you will get weeded out. Rather you studied your head off or not lol. Now on the sentiment that perhaps the exam was too easy ok I understand how some may feel because I agree it will make the call list longer. I feel at this point all that took exam 4600 we are all in the same boat far too early to know how things will play out.

I agree with manwell. Just dont sweat it people. Only time will tell when they start to call people from this pool. The ball will be in your side of the court if you end up getting call and etc. You either make the shot and actually have tge job, or miss that one shot and call it the end. So lets focus on being positive and just wait it out.
