Americans aren’t shrugging over NSA surveillance

It's rather difficult to be the savior when quite a few of his policies are vastly similar to his unpopular predecessor.

What strikes me as more bothersome is his about-face on issues he fought against. He expanded a war, turned on his own words on supporting whistleblowers, etc. If anything he is stubborn about that I find good, is his proactive backing of climate change reduction efforts. Health care? Let them soda-guzzlers pay for their own damn health. This ain't [supposed to be] a welfare society.

Moral of the story: virtually all politicians are liars, and most of the current ones, regardless of party, are a bunch of corporate-backed stooges who have no qualms about pushing this country further down the road to fascism....

And for that I fault Congress and nothing else. If the administration was given just a slight amount of leverage than perhaps all these so called "empty promises" could be fulfilled.

Thing is when he had the majority he wasted a lot of time.  He had the perfect setup in the beginning of his term and tried to reason with people who just couldn't be reasoned with.

Well that's true. Are we paying for the consequences now? Sure we are, but this is now and I see that he is doing everything in his power to move this country in a different direction from when he first entered office, for better or worse.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - New revelations from former security contractor Edward Snowden that U.S. intelligence agencies have access to a vast online tracking tool came to light on Wednesday, as lawmakers put the secret surveillance programs under greater scrutiny.

The Guardian, citing documents from Snowden, published National Security Agency training materials for the XKeyscore program, which the British newspaper described as the NSA's widest-reaching system that covers "nearly everything a typical user does on the Internet."

Intelligence analysts can conduct surveillance through XKeyscore by filling in an on-screen form giving only a "broad justification" for the search and no review by a court or NSA staff, the newspaper said.

It may sound ridiculous, but what was the motive behind classifying the to begin with?
