AndrewJC Posted July 8, 2013 Share #26 Posted July 8, 2013 I presume that for the segment that is affected, they're clearing the northbound local track so that construction workers can step on the tracks without the fear of killing themselves. There aren't switches at every station, so an alternating closure setup wouldn't work. There's no notice posted about B trains running local from Kings Highway to Newkirk (which would be necessary with a hardrail connection), so my assumption is that Q trains are bypassing the stations on the local track. In fact, next weekend, northbound Q trains are running express, so there can't be a hardrail connection. Perhaps the initial phase is a simple bypass and the hardrail connection (and local B) will come later. There's going to be a hardrail connection from A2 to A4 north of Newkirk Ave. Which knocks A4 out of service north of Kings Highway - yet next weekend we have a repeat of this weekend's express run: 57 St/7 Av-bound trains run express from Sheepshead Bay to Prospect Park Weekend, 10:45 PM Fri to 5 AM Mon, Jul 12 - 15 Trains stop at Kings Hwy, Newkirk Plaza and Church Av. For service to Neck Rd, Avenue U, Avenue M, Avenue J, Avenue H, Cortelyou, Beverley Rds and Parkside Av, take the to Kings Hwy, Newkirk Plaza, Church Av or Prospect Park and transfer to a Coney Island-bound . For service from these stations, take the to Church Av, Newkirk Plaza, Kings Hwy or Sheepshead Bay and transfer to a 57 St/7 Av-bound . Besides, when is this supposed hardrail connection going to be installed between now and tomorrow morning? Both A2 and A4 need to be shut down just to install it. Silly question but I'm wondering how this all may affect already apparent problems @ Dekalb in turns of potential for train bunching, congestion, delays and such. It isn't, since there apparently isn't a hardrail connection after all. But if there were one, the B would be scheduled to leave Brighton Beach a few minutes earlier than usual, so that it would merge into its regular slot between Q's at Kings Highway rather than at Prospect Park. North of Prospect Park, everything should look the same.
