trainfan22 2,248 Posted August 15, 2008 Share #1 Posted August 15, 2008 Today i rode 9745 on the B103 most of the seats were done over with carpet seating, however the seats that weren't done over were green..... When GBL was running most if not all of their RTS's had green seats. So this begs the qusetion is 9745 an ex GBL bus? The MTA renumbered the bus so im not sure what PBL it came from. That bus was originally operated Queens Surface. Some of the 9700's have orange seats and some have the carpet seats. The only two ex-Green Lines RTS buses in service are 5926 and 5929. Q25toJamaica 9 Posted August 15, 2008 Share #4 Posted August 15, 2008 9700s are QSCs, like 275 of the roadeo. Perhaps it was a scrapped seating arrangement put in.

You mean like Gray with reddish designs? Yes, those type of seats. 9700s are QSCs, like 275 of the roadeo. Perhaps it was a scrapped seating arrangement put in. Thats what im thinking also, that the seat posslby came from an retired GBL RTS.

7LineFan 256 Posted August 15, 2008 Share #8 Posted August 15, 2008 Wait... so they're scrapping all the ex-PBL RTS's? Why? IMO, last time I rode one, it was in better condition than the repowered 80xx and 81xx TMCs in service now...

IMO, last time I rode one, it was in better condition than the repowered 80xx and 81xx TMCs in service now... 8000-8396 will be scrapped first even though lots of the newer ex-pbl's have been killed off already. Some of them were in really bad shape. Expecially the ones at Triboro and a few at Jamaica Buses. Green Bus Lines really didn't manage those maintenance teams well. No Green was not too bad at all, but they neglected Triboro and Jamaica for some reason. Yet on the other hand, GBL managed Command quite well. trainfan22 2,248 Posted August 16, 2008 Author Share #12 Posted August 16, 2008 Man I wish we still had more of them. Yea i wish they would have saved an TMC RTS from GBL for the museum. Maybe that can restore one of the two TMC's back into GBL colors. Its sad that they didn't save an GMC RTS from command bus or an MCI classic from command bus. Or one of those 4XXX 6V92 RTS's that UP used to have for the museum fleet. B) Wait... so they're scrapping all the ex-PBL RTS's? Why? IMO, last time I rode one, it was in better condition than the repowered 80xx and 81xx TMCs in service now...9745 which i rode today ran pretty good. Those repowered RTS's don't seem as fast as when they had the 6V92 engine. 8000-8396 will be scrapped first even though lots of the newer ex-pbl's have been killed off already. Some of them were in really bad shape. Expecially the ones at Triboro and a few at Jamaica Buses. Green Bus Lines really didn't manage those maintenance teams well. Some of those GMC RTS's, TMC RTS's Orion V's and MCI Classics from GBL ran pretty good actully. Some of those buses were pretty fast and had good takeoff. The only bad thing was some of the GMC RTS's didn't have A/C and the front of the bus would low to the ground, while the back of the bus would be normal. Like the frames were damaged or something. No I don't think you guys get what I am saying. I agree the GBL buses were pretty good, but GBL owned Command, Jamaica and Triboro, and all but Command was neglected by GBL. 7LineFan 256 Posted August 16, 2008 Share #18 Posted August 16, 2008 They did save one. It's The Phoenix Perhaps I should have been a little clearer. Something other than the rebuilt bus, like a 4200 series. The Phoenix was 4396. And besides, it's a training bus, not a museum bus yet.

I never did figure out why they did all that work only to retire them in 9 years!! Those were the first RTS' delivered to the TA.

East New York 4,104 Posted August 16, 2008 Share #22 Posted August 16, 2008 There was an 7XXX series RTS? When did these run and when did they get retired? They were the original 1981-1982 (1200-1300 series) buses rebuilt and numbered to 7000-7049, 7500-7559 in 1996. The last of them retired in 2005. All the rebuilds except 7004 had the DD 6v92TA. Orion 27 Posted August 16, 2008 Share #25 Posted August 16, 2008 This is kind of on topic...I saw a bus in JFK depot still in Green Lines livery, no MTA Bus on it or anything, anyone has an idea what bus # it is and what model? I was on a PA bus and was too far to see it clearly. EDIT: Nvm it's RTS #10001...
