46Dover Posted November 2, 2013 Share #1 Posted November 2, 2013 To me, it's such an awkward sight to see Amtrak trains fly through a multi-platform station like Secaucus Junction. What do you suppose it would take for Amtrak to start revenue service at Secaucus?
BreeddekalbL Posted November 2, 2013 Share #2 Posted November 2, 2013 do they even really need to stop there? is there demand?
NYSubwayBuff Posted November 2, 2013 Share #3 Posted November 2, 2013 I think they should of they come through the platform anyway they might as well stop for 5mins as for your question I think a petition of some sorr Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk now Free
Vistausss Posted November 2, 2013 Share #4 Posted November 2, 2013 If there's demand then yes. If not, then no. Amtrak trips are already long enough in *most* cases, no need to make 'em even longer.by stopping at a station where there's little to no demand. Fan Railer Posted November 3, 2013 Share #6 Posted November 3, 2013 From a demand standpoint, there realistically is none, and marketing Amtrak to folks along the diesel lines that serve Secaucus isn't going to change a thing. The only reason people would change at Secaucus from Amtrak would be to head to Hoboken, not the other direction, and even then, there's already a transfer point at Newark Penn Station. Most people on Amtrak are in for the long haul into NYP. It is really just a waste of time having Amtrak stop at Secaucus. It would just be another station where conductors on Regionals would have to tell dimwitted people who can't read that their New Jersey Transit tickets aren't valid on Amtrak Trains. Jamaica Express Posted November 4, 2013 Share #7 Posted November 4, 2013 there would be no point for that...Newark is the next stop the west while NYP is the next stop the east, stopping Amtrak trains at Secaucus would do nothing but slow schedules for both NJT and AMTK
mfs NJT459 Posted November 5, 2013 Share #8 Posted November 5, 2013 i think the only time when Amtrak stopped at Secaucus station was to pick up the late Senator Frank Lautenberg's body (station named after him) for his final train ride to Washington DC
theaveragejoe Posted November 5, 2013 Share #9 Posted November 5, 2013 It would be a waste that is what NJT is for Amtrak riders can transfer to and from NJT at Penn Station Newark or NYC if they really need to go to Secaucus that bad.

Amtrak trains go thru many stations along the NEC that are only served by the local commuter railroads, without stopping. Passengers can transfer to get there, if necessary. If there is enough demand, then perhaps Amtrak might stop one or two trains a day at some of those stations on an experimental basis, to see if the market justifies it or not. Can you imagine how long it would take to get from say, Boston to Richmond, if Amtrak ran a regional train that would stop at every single possible station from one end to the other? They would probably need a sleeping car....
