The Big Apple was expected to be covered in up to seven inches of snow by Sunday morning, with flakes then turning into freezing rain or sleet, according to National Weather Service meteorologist Lauren Nash. “It’s possible we do hit some daily snowfall records,” she said. The record snowfall in New York City for Dec. 14 is 5.8 inches. The city was prepped to battle the first real snow storm of the season. The Sanitation Department’s 365 salt spreaders were deployed throughout the five boroughs, Sanitation Deputy Chief Keith Mellis said. The city planned to have about 1,800 plows on the streets Saturday evening, and 2,000 employees on a day shift, with another 2,000 relieving them to work through the night.
