Continental Airlines' work of art, NO MORE! :(

Recommended Posts

I felt very sadden today when I was looking through some photos at www.airliners.net, and ran into recent photos of CO N77014, which is a Continental Airlines Boeing 777-224/ER, a plane famous for the Peter Max scheme. In my humble opinion, that was the greatest looking paint scheme on a plane ever. So supposedly Continental sent it into the paint shop over the winter this past year and painted the scheme into the regular Continental scheme.

It explains the fact of me not seeing it as much as I did before around EWR (Newark Liberty International Airport).

Here is a recent photo of it:

Here is the earliest photo of it in regular Continental scheme:

Last but not least, photos of the plane in the Peter Max scheme:

I think that explains why the Boeing 777 is my favorite, or second favorite aircraft model. Continental picked the right plane too because a 737-800 wouldn't have worked since thats too small, pass on the 757 since it wouldn't look right, and pass on the 767-200 and -300 since it wouldn't look right either. The only other plane it'll look right on is a 767-400.

But anyways, its really sad Continental got rid of the scheme. I was never able to get a shot of it. :)

Yeah that was my favorite CO paint sceme ever! But with gas prices the way they have been, they couldn't really afford to keep it in the skys. All that elaborate paint causes the plane to burn 4% more gas, and on an average CO 777 trip of 7000 miles you do the math!!

But here's my favorite of all times!! I was Blessed to fly on this baby from Auckland, NZ to LAX. Qantas can afford to keep something like this flying for 11 straight years now!!

Damn, so the paint was really dragging it down.

Ah yes, Wunala Dreaming. I must say, Qantas did it big with that one because it does look hot! Lucky you, getting to fly on it....

I love planes!!! Maybe slightly more than buses! I have 82 models. 16 of which are the 777, which will remain my favorite until the 787 takes to the skys. I hate the Pratt powered ones. The GE and Rolls-Royce powered 777 are the best!!! With GE setting the standard as always!!!

Ugh, same here man. I've had a passion for planes before I had a passion for trains and buses. I got a model 777 myself, an American Airlines 777 at that. Plan on getting more. I can't wait for the 787, at that to fly on one. I won't be surprised if when CO gets enough of them, and plenty are at EWR, I'll see them going to SJU! But we'll see, CO get plans to put 787s on the EWR-LAX flights first. I don't like the Pratt powered 777s either. GE all the way!
