(AUS) E is for Everyone.

Recommended Posts

On the 4th of November last year Melbourne's next generation tram, the E class entered service. Locally built at the Bombardier plant in Dandenong, the first trams built in Victoria since 1994. These belong to the Flexity Swift family. A fleet of 50 will enter service on Route 96. One of Melbourne's busiest tram routes. As a result the D2 class trams will be cascaded to Route 19 to provide a low floor service for the first time to the Elizabeth street routes. B2 trams that run on the 19 will be moved elsewhere and the Z3s will be moved to replace the Z1 and Z2 fleet.

These feature up to date PID displays.

E.6002 departs the Port Junction tram stop. These trams handle the light rail line much better than the D2 trams which have a tendency to sway.

E.6001 comes off the light rail at Port junction.

E.6001 shows off it's indicators and brake lights. These feature a scrolling sign below the drivers desk which displays "CAUTION Pedestrians alighting"

Nice new tram stock.

Do you need to request the stop on Melbourne tram? Because I see a panel that suggest this.

Yes you do. In the city they stop often enough due to the large amount of people that are waiting. But more often than not trams will stop at every stop in the city anyway. Outside the CBD you have to press the button or pull the cord or it won't stop. The only tram route that stops at every stop is the 35 City circle tourist tram.
