NJ Transit awards $7.6M train storage facility contract

NEWARK, N.J. — The Record reported that NJ Transit awarded a $7.6 million contract to Jacobs Engineering Group of Morristown for design and engineering work to transform a local rail yard into a permanent location to store railcars during a storm.

The move comes after superstorm Sandy damaged nearly 400 NJ Transit railcars and locomotives when they were left in flood-prone rail yards. The agency incurred an estimated $450 million in damage system-wide from the storm, including the $120 million in damage to rail equipment that was not moved to safe haven locations.
