NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – Beach chairs and bathing suits wouldn’t be a rare sight in the summer, but in January?

That’s just what New Yorkers saw Wednesday morning at a bus stop near Grand Central Terminal.

Swimsuit-clad models spent the morning giving away sunglasses and free MetroCards at the M42 bus stop at 42nd Street between Lexington and Third avenues.

It’s all part of a month-long campaign to promote tourism in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The bus shelter was fitted with a space heater and beach chairs to get New Yorkers to think warm.

Many Wednesday morning took advantage of the heater.

“I love it,” one passerby told 1010 WINS’ Juliet Papa.

“I think it’s a good idea,” another woman said.

The promotion includes images of Fort Lauderdale beaches and a cabana with palm trees at Grand Central and John. F. Kennedy airport.

You won't need metrocards... you can just ride HER... ;)

I don't think she would want that :) it will probably be the other way around. In New York you never know what your going to see and that makes this city unique.
