Harry Posted August 19, 2007 Share #1 Posted August 19, 2007 I took another trip out to Matawan to get some photos and videos of the North Jersey Coast Line. I also took the trip to find out about push/pull service directions on the NJCL. Enjoy! Eric Kreszl Posted August 19, 2007 Share #3 Posted August 19, 2007 Great Videos! I'm surprised that ALP-44 #4400 is still on the NJCL. By the way how did you get up to signal 69? Eric
Harry Posted August 19, 2007 Author Share #4 Posted August 19, 2007 Great vids. Harry. You took them at matawaan? Its funny just doesn't look like it. Well I guess I havn't been there in years. Thanks. Yep, that's definitely the Aberdeen-Matawan station. Actually just outside the station. Great Videos! I'm surprised that ALP-44 #4400 is still on the NJCL. By the way how did you get up to signal 69? Thanks Eric. The back entrance to an old warehouse has access to the NJCL tracks about a couple of hundred yards south of the station. Eric Kreszl Posted August 20, 2007 Share #14 Posted August 20, 2007 Harry, I notice that the ALP-46's are mostly assigned to the longer consists and the ALP-44 electrics are on the shorter 6 to 8 car trains. Eric
NewJerseyT Posted August 20, 2007 Share #15 Posted August 20, 2007 Yes the alp 44s have less power than the 46's but they now need the 46s to replace the alp 44s because they aren't strong enough to pull the new bi-levels at the length consist NJT would like. Along with many other reasons such as age.
Pablo M 201 Posted August 20, 2007 Share #16 Posted August 20, 2007 But its sad that for NJT to run an 11-car multilevel train it requires two ALP-46s, one at each end. Which many think its a waste. But what I hear is that really NJT just wants to run 8 car ML trains mostly instead of 11 car ML consist.

Yes! And why not assign a full consist of Comet Vs to a 46. I have not seen that yet. Has anyone?
Eric Kreszl Posted August 20, 2007 Share #18 Posted August 20, 2007 Yes! And why not assign a full consist of Comet Vs to a 46. I have not seen that yet. Has anyone? The only FULL Comet V consists I have seen are believe it or not 3 to 5 car Diesel Consists. All the Electric consists I have seen have comet 5 or other comets mixed in with them.
