via White Plains Road 189 Posted August 28, 2008 Share #2 Posted August 28, 2008 I think you need to redo that poll....why would you put the there they already using the R-160B's....the are being tested on the R-160's
Eric B 1,073 Posted August 28, 2008 Share #3 Posted August 28, 2008 They could always, for whatever reason, decide to move the 179's to the , and move the 160's elsewhere. So it is a possibility. The poll needs to allow multiple choices, because they will more than likely run on more than one line. I say assuming they will have 5 doors per car. Yet someone told me that was an unfounded rumor. So if not, I say put a next option of 160's on the , and then put the 179's on other R44/46 lines such as the and . (The would get either 160 or 179; doesn't matter, just as long as it's the new technology for the OPTO service and proposed CBTC expansion). Pablo M 201 35 Posted August 28, 2008 Share #6 Posted August 28, 2008 because thats the first intention. Like I said in another thread though, its not set in stone how the MTA is going to assigned the R179s.

Q43 Floral Park 39 Posted August 29, 2008 Share #9 Posted August 29, 2008 I would like to say the should get something new. At least it would make the Concourse line look better. The R68s just blend in with the decrepited nature of the line and they've been there since jump. They need to go. something form this century needs to be on the ASAP. MTR Admiralty 4 Posted August 29, 2008 Share #11 Posted August 29, 2008 i believe da is sharing (Q)'s cars (R160s) lets say SAS will have PSDs, the PSDs must be made to fit one type of train (since 160s and 179s will proly have different door placement) ill say since it really needs to get sumthing new! They are now scaling back on the infrastructure of the uptown section, so it makes me wonder whether we'll ever see any time soon the lower portion of the line, which is the first section that will open. Far Rock Depot 1,291 Posted August 30, 2008 Share #16 Posted August 30, 2008 5 doors per side on the 179's??? i think that concept will never get past the rumor stage. one of the complaints that the MTA had with 75' cars was lack of windows. to fit 5 doors, the current window size will have to be redused. and if people complained about less seats now...... Eric B 1,073 Posted August 31, 2008 Share #17 Posted August 31, 2008 What? whaddya mean scaling back? Like reducing 72nd St from 3 tracks to 2 (Kills my idea of a terminal for a 6th Av/Willy B service without merging the V, plus the extra track would have been for the in any future Manny B shutdowns, and would be a good intermediate turning point for any other 6th AvBway reroutes). I think there were other reductions, like changes in the exits, IIRC. They're trying to construct less to save money.

The window size and space between doors would be the same as the 60 footers, only with the additional 15 feet, you could get in another window and door. BroadwayBuffer 40 Posted September 1, 2008 Share #22 Posted September 1, 2008 I marked on the poll, but really they should replace Jamaica's R-46s which could be moved to Pitkin replacing the R-44s and whatever else is still there by then. The might be replaced before R-179s arrive with R-160s if any go to Jamaica to replace the remaining R-32s. At that point, R-179s could be assigned there making Jamaica mostly if not all new-tech, especially since they're considering implementing ATO on Queens Blvd. Although, which Queens lines the R-179s are specifically used on would still be up in the air if this were to take place. My suggestion being the first provided the is fully R-160s. I would doubt a tit-for-tat replacement of an R-160 for each R-32 and an R-179 for each R-46. R179s will be 75FT as well, intended to replace the R44s and R46s, with the R44s going first ( THANK GOD ) I think the R68s will live on longer if there happens to be an option order. Also, the is a helluva fun trip with a 10 car set of 60fters like the R32s. But to an extent I agree that R46s should remain, but R160s will be on the sometime in the future, I just hope that they dont boot all the R46s. INDman 414 Posted September 2, 2008 Share #25 Posted September 2, 2008 I said the because once the R46 go, they should be replaced with 75ft cars. Then again why trust Jamaica Yard with brand new cars, they will find a way to destroy them. If the R179s don't go to the I would say put them on the or maybe the . Remember, baring any major disaster, you will never see an R179 on the or lines.
