It's never a good sign when Eric Grubman, who is basically the NFL’s crisis manager, shows up at the day-after Super Bowl news conference. Unfortunately for the league, he has become a regular. The need for his presence Monday could be an ominous sign for New York’s chances when it bids for its second Super Bowl. Grubman, the executive vice president of NFL ventures and business operations, was brought in to discuss the New Jersey Transit train screwup that ruined the Super Bowl XLVIII experience for way too many people and sticks a big demerit on the report card of the first venture of New York-New Jersey into the stressful world of staging a Super Bowl.

What a damn shame, and way to give NJ a bad name for thousands from across the country (as if they thought of NJ nicely to begin with). NJT first of all should've expected well over 15,000 to show up on the trains, and definitely could have prepared better for the postgame knowing what they dealt with before the game. And the heat in Secaucus should've been off to begin with even if only 15,000 fans showed like they estimated. that still would've been extremely dangerous.

I was at Secaucus Junction on Sunday and my god, it was a NIGHTMARE! The only thing was that the TSA screening was relatively quick. I got my bag checked and off I went. 

It was after you get the screening that it got confusing, folks that wanted to go anywhere that wasn't the Meadowlands got told to go to the other tracks, but some(like myself) were told to go to the WRONG tracks, ending up missing connections.

They ran a crap ton of extra trains, most of them terminating at EWR and NWK-Penn from NYP. My train was apparently free from NYP to Secaucus.

It was a mess for sure. The Shuttle Bus scenario wasn't much better either.

Did they actually run the maximum number of trains that the signal capacity allowed, and that number just wasn't good enough, or did they simply not put enough trains on the line?

They extended the lower level platforms at Secaucus to the same length as how long they are at Meadowlands Station in order to permit 10-car multilevels that day

 

There were only 4 10-car multilevel trains for Super Bowl service, including those that were pulled from the Raritan Valley Line

I thought 50 were sent after midnight or so when there were still people in line?

 

Not one went out. It was everyone but NJ Transit.

 

The NJ Transit buses were supposed to do Secaucus Junction and Harmon Meadow shuttles along with the others, that way, the RTSs they bring back could easily go back to the Meadowlands lot.

Didn't Hillside run the parking lot shuttles with NABIs and Ex Rutgers LFS?

During the regular season they do. I'm sure they were out but they may have been doing a bit more than that since it's the Super Bowl, and a lot of the parking was closed off and not used.

Sounds like some price-gouging/fixing was going on to force people to either wait hours to get out on the train or shell out $50 for a private bus...
