46Dover Posted February 8, 2014 #1 Posted February 8, 2014 In the wake of recent snowstorms, lingering snow and ice are left at bus stops making footing treacherous for commuters which has the potential for injury/lawsuit even days after the fact. Most Townships/cities/boroughs have ownership of these stops. Should NJ Transit step up and take responsibility for clearing snow/ice from these stops?

No these towns complain when NJT wants to advertise on the bus shelters because the towns own them. So let them maintain them. You cant have it both ways. They should put up or shut up.
Tokkemon Posted February 8, 2014 #3 Posted February 8, 2014 NJ Transit needs to implore the towns to deal with the problem. I know in Fort Lee its been less than acceptable and the risk of slipping has been greatly increased by the repeated snowfalls. Until the weather gets warmer I suppose we're going to have to deal with it.
Silk City Transit Posted February 8, 2014 #4 Posted February 8, 2014 As per control center announcements, we're instructed to load/unload in the street when the stops are completely snow-blocked. Some towns, or property owners maybe, have shoveled a little cut in the sidewalk to the curb, and if possible, I'll stop right in front of it. Otherwise, I'll load from the street.
QM1to6Ave Posted February 9, 2014 #5 Posted February 9, 2014 It's a problem here in NYC, too. DSNY and DOT are supposed to send out crews to clean the stops, but a lot of them are snow packed. It's a real shame

Nothing is gonna be done until a bus gets hit or a passenger gets seriously hurt. We have stops on 17 that were not cleared out the right way (or not at all) and unless you have a crusier you end up with half the bus in the travel lanes. IMO, NJT should clear the stops and send the bill to the towns......bet you it would only take one storm to end this BS.
