Vistausss Posted February 20, 2014 Share #1 Posted February 20, 2014 So I was re-watching vol 2 of the awesome rare annoucements video by Mr Railfan for the gazillionth time (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v= ZNfGyjEaCW0) and there's an annoucement for a B skip-stop train. Of course, there are programs recorded that never happend like the D to Far Rock or the M via the C line. But B skip-stop seems like a pretty basic thing if it were to happen, it's not like it's a huge GO or anything. So I was wondering a few things: -Has the ever ran skip-stop? -And if so, what was the reason? -And if not, what in the world would cause the to ever run skip-stop? The and did some skip-stop service on the Brighton line in the '80s, but I don't remember reading anything about a skip-stop.

Vistausss Posted February 21, 2014 Author Share #4 Posted February 21, 2014 and they don't have a program for E local to 179 St (Happens every weekday from common practice) Thanks, I guess? But how does that answer my question? That s the only thing I asked for...
BM5 via Woodhaven Posted February 21, 2014 Share #5 Posted February 21, 2014 Thanks, I guess? But how does that answer my question? That s the only thing I asked for... The only scenario where that would happen if the and went to their 1986 service pattern under a Manny-B closure on one side or something.
pjbr40 Posted February 21, 2014 Share #6 Posted February 21, 2014 Q23 is correct on Manny bridge. The was forced to use the Broadway line while the north side is repaired. So since both and was running on Broadway and Brighton, they used the skip stop service. Once the Sixth Ave side was open they eliminated the service. I guess they program the as in skip stop in case the tracks on the bridge need to be closed. I doubtfully they will do the skip stop along the Brighton if one side of the bridge is closed. Eric B Posted February 21, 2014 Share #7 Posted February 21, 2014 The skip stop wasn't because of the bridge, it was because of the reconstruction of the overpasses on the line which took out two tracks at a time. This happened to coincide with the bridge shutdown, so the decision was made to move the M to 4th Ave., and have just skip stop. The skip stop had been used before in 1964 when they were lengthening the platforms (then it was exp and Banker's Specials in one pattern, and the QT local in the other pattern), and then it was done again more recently, when the was there already, but by this time they decided to just have all local instead of skip stop. But obviously, they put the program in there just in case they ever do it that way again.
pjbr40 Posted February 21, 2014 Share #8 Posted February 21, 2014 thank eric. i was researching for why it was skip stop. It came back to me why it was put into place at that time.

I was thinking since before, the D/Q had the same exact route north of Brighton Beach because of the Manny- B split, that they decided to make it like that to not have a "redundant" label.
