Simple, ridership goes a lot on weekends to the mall and/or the Best Buy/Target at Vauxhall where the service is frequent on that part of the line. And also no ones wants to walk from the nearest bus stop which is Millburn & Springfield Ave

As a former #70 dependant commuter I know that route's crushloads as well as the times when the runs are pretty much empty

I remembered last year when I was on the 70 going to Summit in the morning, it was a sunday and I was on a Nabi surprisingly that started from Irvington Terminal and it broke down past Hilton Garage and all of us had to wait for the next 70 which ended up being a Neoplan

When that bus came it was super packed, one would think "Why not send out one from the garage? we're only a block away" but I won't question that so I agree with what go25 said.

Which parts from where to where get crushed?

depends on the day (weekdays or weekends).

if its a weekday more than likely anything from Summit up to the Newark/Irvington line and vice versa. Thats where the line gets the bulk of their customers (Any route that serves Springfield Ave in Irvington will get crushed btw.)

Weekends are a different beast
