From what I've heard, it's at 207 St used for parts for other R142As. Who knows when it'll be back on the tracks.

If you're wondering the set that was OOS from this year's winter is 7596-7610

As for the (2)(5) , they have extra trips added from their previous schedule (not a lot) but they do have more spares now.

When will 7596-7610 and 7661-7775 return to service?

The (1) end up to 2455 and also, 7661-5 is at 207 St from previous response given as parts car

Also, the (2) goes up to 6710 and the (5) starts at 6711

OK, thanks.

Also, the (2) goes up to 6710 and the (5) starts at 6711.

I'm told that the consist sheets would dispute that, but haven't seen one in a while.  The "break point" is supposed to be 6695 on (2)  and 6696 on (5), and has been for sometime (since 2013) unless there's been a transfer recently.

It's been a little while, guess I should post an update regarding the R62As...

-1901 and 1908 are back at Corona.

-1902, 1903, 1905, and 1906 are hooked together with flatbed cars for work service.

-1910 isn't there for some odd reason, IDK if that single moved or not.

-1904, 1907, and 1923 are still on the IRT mainline.

-As mentioned in the random thoughts thread, ex-240 St set 2221-2225 now has new LED signs.

-2346-2350 and 2456-2475 will likely get LCDs as well.

Now, a few questions:

-If 1921-1925 are reunified, what will happen to 1926-1934-1938-1942? That set will be one car short from being a full five-car set.

-Will any of the singles from the 1901-1910 & 1923 group replace any R33WF work motors?

The 2012 plan was to formally unitize 1926-1965 as 5-car links for 6.  Evidently that's too much work.

(Somewhere, necessarily, down the road to formally rationalize the R-62A fleet?).

Better question is if the EPO's will ever fully return?  Maybe be rebuilt?

They did. As the redbirds weren't at Corona Yard at that time.

1903 is farmed at 207 yard still on garbage duty the IRT mainline.

All the R62A nonsense aside, this thread was to simply document the R188 car order.

I read an article that talked about the two derailments that occurred early last year with the R188s as well with all the other derailments that happened within 2017 calendar year. Evidence was found that on half of the R188s wheel flanges were worn down which cause 2 of the sets to derail just west of Mets-Willets Pt station. They had to replace half of the wheels on the R188s both New & Converted sets.

Since this is R188 discussion, 7882-7 is at 207 St Yard. I haven't seen service for a while as the last I saw it was the Hudson Yards opening (or months after that time).

Also, if it's alright to point out, the issue of the wheels is how the 3 trains of 11 car R62As are still in-service till that's sorted out.

Just to clarify, R62A 2221-2225 only has the interior white LED lights, they dont have the LCD green local/red express sign lights on them.

WB lcl and the express has been cut over to new signals from woodside to 33.  CBTC in ATPM mode during rush hour with flashing green. EB local is still legacy signals. CBTC ends at https://www.google.com/maps/place/40°44'50.9"N+73°56'09.0"W/@40.7474732,-73.9363819,186m/data=!3m2!1e3!4b1!4m14!1m7!3m6!1s0x89c25ed539cdd9b9:0x5171b310b50fa0b6!2s32+Queens+Blvd,+Long+Island+City,+NY+11101!3b1!8m2!3d40.7468898!4d-73.9352119!3m5!1s0x0:0x0!7e2!8m2!3d40.7474811!4d-73.9358394  with very rough transition from CBTC to block signals at the 2 homeballs. "stop and sit for 5 seconds" problem at the 2 homeballs. ATPM seems slower than block since the WB timer between 52 and 46, with block, the TO usually accelerated into 46 after the timer clears. With CBTC the "timer" lasts all the way to the end of the 46th street platform and "lifts" at 1 car length before 11 car plate.

At the risk of being "silly" (we have to document this somewhere), there might be some movement on R-62A front:

Five cars from Livonia (42 St. (S)) were at Corona last week and have departed again.  Escorted by old friends 1791-95 were 1940 and 1931 (cab ends) along with three singles, probably 1932, 1933, 1937.

Sounds like a new 5-car coupled "link" in the offing for (6).

Also, perhaps at last the start of long-awaited "upstairs, downstairs" series of moves (i.e. consolidation of former Corona and Livonia fleets).

I'm also informed that R-62A's on (6) are receiving (Westchester) green strips beneath the number boards in place of (Corona (7)) purple.

Having a great summer!  Too bad it's almost over.

Interesting, 1791-95 was just recently SMS'ed at 207 St Shop. Might be a rhetorical question but why would the (6) need more R62As?

Also, 1921-22-25 are the oddballs on the 42nd St (S) considering those LED green/red side lights are obviously irrelevant on the Shuttle and should've been reunited with 1923-1924.

Getting back to the Flushing line it's good to see that CBTC is progressing somewhat on the (7). Going westbound towards Manhattan you can see signals with green flashing lights up until before reaching Queensboro Plaza. Corona yard maintenance continues to do what they do best and that's properly maintaining their fleet, some of the converted R142A/R188s look better now then when they were on the (6) several years ago.

Why were the physical timers on the curve put there in the first place? They werent there until about 2 or 3 years ago, and the trains operated fine at the faster speed.

"Safety". We all know signals dpt has been putting in timers everywhere like they're the next greatest fad of the century.

1931-1927-1904-1952-1940 was transferred to Westchester to replace 1921-1922-1925 which was used for the SAP seatless test and moved to Livonia for Shuttle service. Why they didn't choose 1923 instead of 1904 is beyond me. 1901-1903, 1905, 1906, 1908, 1910 and 1903 remain at Corona for now.
